Job Description and Duties

Interested in a role that provides the opportunity to help shape development along the Bay shoreline, explore how to expand public access and encourage the development of new shoreline public access facilities? As BCDC's Shoreline Development Analyst, you will analyze and provide recommendations to the Executive Director and the Commission on proposals involving a wide range of development types, including:

  • mixed-use residential and commercial developments

  • shoreline parks and open spaces

  • San Francisco Bay Trail extensions and improvements

  • commercial recreation facilities, including marinas

  • marine industrial facilities

  • transportation facilities

  • seaport and airport development

  • restoration and resource protection efforts

You will also look at the resiliency of proposed shoreline development to future flooding from sea level rise and help permit applicants ensure that their project can adapt to rising tides.

Working Conditions

BCDC's office is our headquarters in downtown San Francisco. BCDC is a hybrid workplace and offers telework for all employees. Telework is available for this position in accordance with BCDC Telework Policy and Procedures with a semi-weekly in-person office visit

The award-winning San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) is a small state agency located in San Francisco. BCDC has planning and regulatory responsibility over development located in and around San Francisco Bay, one of the most urbanized estuaries in North America. You'll be responsible for reviewing proposals for development projects along the Bay shoreline. BCDC is looking for someone who enjoys working with accomplished builders, designers, engineers, and environmentalists. BCDC's Shoreline Development Analyst has a rare opportunity to take ownership in the evaluation and analysis of shoreline development projects, so knowledge about California land use and environmental planning principles is highly advantageous. Experience in project management and utilizing verbal and written communication skills to frequently interact with stakeholders such as applicants, consultants, staff, and other government contacts would be valuable.
