SAFREST Resources has partnered with a passionate behavioral health provider located in Lynchburg, VA. We are seeking an LMHP or LMHP-E, licensed mental health counselor, or resident in counseling to serve as a Co-Responder Clinician. The Co-Responder Clinician will work as part of a crisis response team and is paired with a trained police officer with a mental health professional to respond to incidents involving individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The clinician will co-respond with an assigned police officer; will use information obtained to develop and implement appropriate collaborative treatment approaches, and support services to avert an emergency custody order, temporary detention order, inpatient psychiatric hospitalization, and/or involvement in the criminal justice system toward needed treatment and support.

Related Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Accompany LPD sworn officer during peak mental health crisis hours, to be dispatched on-scene to assess crisis; Follow directives and instructions from the accompanying LPD officer in order to insure and maintain a safe environment; Ability to work with a wide variety of client populations (including youth and adults) in a community setting; Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with community-based external stakeholders; Communicate effectively verbally and written. Present a positive and friendly demeanor to clients, their families, staff, and clinic support personnel, funders and the public.; Knowledge in DSM-IV/DSM-V diagnoses. Knowledge of the appropriate and effective use of HIPAA; Ability to promote positive, collaborative, and professional working relations among co-workers and representatives in the community; Knowledge of community mental health and public health in order to provide advocacy and enhance an individual’s treatment and access to community resources; Knowledge of psychiatric/medical medications/treatments; Ability to participate in and successfully pass behavioral intervention training; includes both verbal de-escalation skills and physical skills techniques to be utilized with consumers as needed; willing and available to work modified schedules (weekends, holiday, etc.) as required; Ability to drive and must possess a valid driver’s license. Regular attendance at training and meetings may require travel to a variety of sites.
