Position Summary

  • Insulet provides a fast paced and energetic work environment developing drug delivery products aimed at meaningfully improving quality of life for our customers

  • Mechanical Engineering Co-ops are considered entry level engineers and are given the corresponding opportunities/responsibilities on the R&D team

  • Day-to-day activities will cover the full range of engineering activities including concept development, detail design, overseeing fabrication, assembly/test, and final reporting/presenting findings

  • As deemed necessary, may be pulled to support critical design validation testing to support program development


  • Working with other R&D engineers to develop concepts/prototypes

  • Utilizing in house prototyping capabilities (3D printing, lathe, mill) to quickly prototype/iterate/validate ideas

  • Creating CAD designs and overseeing fabrication of prototypes with outside vendors

  • Analyzing and testing design concepts for feasibility/performance

  • Presenting concepts, analysis, and findings to internal team and other stakeholders

  • Performing other duties as required

Education and Experience

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of one prior co-op or 6-months of similar internship experience preferred

  • Currently enrolled/working toward a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree

Desired Skills:

  • Ethical, responsible, and data-driven decision making methodology

  • Self-starter, detail oriented, and effective verbal/written communicator

  • Office Software Proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Engineering Software Proficiency (SolidWorks, ANSYS, Matlab Preferred)

  • Lab Equipment Experience (Instron, Balances, Microscopes, Oscilloscopes, etc.)

Special Requirements:

  • Must have transportation to Billerica Office (some Co-op carpooling options available)

This position assists in the software quality assurance efforts related to new product development and product modifications for the Research and Development group. The position is responsible for ensuring that new products have been effectively and efficiently verified and validated prior to their release for shipment and that these designs effectively meet documented and implied user needs and requirements. Software quality assurance efforts are lifecycle oriented beginning during product requirements development and continuing throughout its lifetime. Responsibilities * Creating and executing test designs and test cases. * Report on testing activities * Work closely with the software development team to identify improvements. * Develop and Extend protocols and plans as device features evolve. * Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies * Performs other duties as required. Education and Experience Education and Experience: Minimum Requirements: * Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent for the duration of the internship. * Minimum GPA 3.25. * Self-motivated, proactive and quick learner. Preferred Skills and Competencies: * Hands-on experience with Embedded Systems. * Ability to understand C and/or C++. * Basic understanding of QA concepts * Familiarity with reading electrical schematics. * Experience with Oscilloscope, Protocol Analyzer, Logic Analyzer etc. * Interest in how products work and a lot of curiosity around testing the boundaries of a product.
