Job Title: Co-Op Processing Engineer

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt SUMMARY

This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager - with the primary responsibility of completing assigned experimentation related to Metal Injection Molding and Plastic Injection Molding. Projects will be selected and prioritized based on manufacturing needs, process improvements, cost savings, and overall impact to the business.

EMPLOYMENT TIMING / DURATION

  • This position is intended to occur during the Fall or Spring semester of college academics

  • Fall Co-Op timing is approximately August through December

  • Spring Co-Op timing is approximately January through May

  • The Spring Co-Op has the option to extend through the summer months, if required

  • Specific start and end dates to be determined in cooperation with the candidate

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Monitor and analyze molding process performance for continuous improvement opportunities

  • Assist in establishing process control limits and standard work instructions

  • Develop manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment to ensure consistent high quality results

  • Design, schedule, supervise, and analyze experiments to develop or improve new processes, equipment, or materials [possible white paper opportunities]

  • Optimize process parameters for yield, throughput, and quality

  • Support and work with project managers during initial tool molding trials and experimentation

  • Act as primary lead for molding experimentation geared towards part specific problem resolution

  • Provides appropriate training to ARC personnel in processes and procedures

  • Develop tools [formulas, spreadsheets, etc.] for analyzing and controlling manufacturing processes

  • Initiate business cases for new capital equipment or more cost-effective processing methods

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and REQUIREMENTS

  • BS Plastic Engineering Technology [enrolled - 4 semesters completed minimum]
  • Proven ability to operate various types of injection molding machines, establish 2-stage processing parameters, implement processing control, and troubleshoot part defects]
  • Ability to complete and analyze MoldFlow simulations]
  • Understanding of Metal Injection Molding [MIM] and scientific molding principles]
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal]
  • Good analytical skills in using data to make sound engineering decisions]
  • Ability to document and present experimental results and technical knowledge]

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS This role will report to the Engineering Manager with no supervisory responsibilities. Close team building will be required with Process Technicians, Setup Technicians, Supervisors, Project Managers, Quality Inspectors, Operators, and Material Handlers.
