The Associate Counsel position will provide legal support to a rapidly growing healthcare and business development company. Projects include monitoring compliance with various state and federal statutes, reviewing and negotiating contracts and proposals, reviewing employment matters, providing counsel on licensing matters and assisting General Counsel on special projects.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The Associate Counsel will assist General Counsel and executive/management staff with advising on regulatory compliance, contracts, corporate governance, employment matters, and licensing matters in a fast pace, ever changing environment.
Assist General Counsel in developing and monitoring compliance policies under the broad directives of the Board of Directors and Executive Management. Explain policies to Administrators and other concerned parties.
Periodically review policies and procedures for legal compliance and discuss and evaluate any necessary changes with personnel responsible.
Review and counsel on employee matters to ensure compliance with employment law.
Identify risks and propose alternative processes to mitigate those risks.
Review and counsel on a wide variety of contracts.
Coordinate legal matters as necessary with outside counsel as directed by General Counsel.
Analyze issues and provide counsel as necessary to protect the interests of the corporation.
Represent corporation in dealings with outside agencies, including governmental. Includes matters concerning unemployment claims, workers compensation, insurance, state surveys, licensure, etc.
Key Job Requirements
Juris Doctorate and valid Kansas Law license
Working knowledge of Word and Excel
Must possess strong organizational skills
Must have ability to communicate clearly and timely
Able to work independently with minimal supervision in an ever-changing, challenging environment
Must exercise excellent judgement in a small legal department
Must possess a high degree of professional ethics and integrity
Must demonstrate on an ongoing basis the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and other departments
If required to operate a motor vehicle for business purposes, must successfully complete the requirements contained in Company's Motor Vehicles policy.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must be able to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
