Reporting to the Production Manager, this position will be responsible for supporting the activities of engineering and complex machining by creating solid models of tooling and fixturing, converting models to drawings, posting solid models to MasterCAM and programming various CNC Machines to produce machined prototype parts for production.


  • Design tooling, fixtures and parts in Solidworks

  • Create and update programs for several CNC machines

  • Solid understanding of GD&T to produce finished drawings

  • Order tooling and equipment

  • Address questions and train other machinists and operators

  • Participate in process and design review meetings

  • Job cost estimating

  • Works well with all production operators, has a hands on approach (major shop floor presence)

  • Works effectively with and responds appropriately to MCI customers and customer representatives as directed

  • Maintains consistent attendance as scheduled to support business and operational needs

  • Communicate and coordinate with other Materion locations

  • Comfortable wearing all forms of personal protective equipment devices such as respirators and protective gloves, work shoes, and eyewear as required

  • Strong safety and health mindset

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Associate's degree in Machine Tool Technology or Engineering Technology, Drafting and Design, plus 3-5 years employment in a comparable setting or 5+ years in CNC machine programming and operation or engineering design

  • Solid understanding of tool design for forming/pressing operations

  • Understanding of customer specifications and tolerancing

  • Six Sigma experience preferred

  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communications required

  • Strong organizational skills, self-managed, participative, able to effectively lead project teams required

  • Computer literate, strong CAD experience (Solidworks preferred)

  • SAP awareness preferred

  • Knowledge of precision measuring instruments, micrometers, balance, microscopes, CMM required

We fabricate and ship items worldwide ranging from large 100 ton carbon steel heat exchangers to electropolished stainless steel windtunnel components to public art as well as tanks designed to ASME, AWWA and API, using stainless, monel, mild steel, titanium or aluminum to name a few. We are looking for those who are interested in working for a company with state of the art equipment, high quality standards and highly trained, knowledgeable employees. We are currently seeking experienced CNC and/or Manual/Conventional Machinists for our machine shop. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years as a CNC or conventional machinist with experience working in an industrial job shop environment with the ability to read, comprehend and interpret blueprints and drawings. Be able to successfully demonstrate the safe, efficient and correct operation of machine tools. Key Skills and Competencies: * Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gauges, dial indicators and venier calipers * Machine parts to specification using tools such as lathes, 4 - axis horizontal boring mills, vertical boring mills, drill press, shapers or grinders * Measure, examine and test completed components in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers * Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operation * Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments and materials onto machines * Monitor and set appropriate feed and speed of machines during the machining process * Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts * Must be able to follow written and oral instructions * Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job * Must be adaptable to changing work environment, competing demand and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events * Must be willing and able to work flexibility shifts and changing work schedules Responsibilities and Job Activities: * Handling and moving objects- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials * Controlling machines- Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or process * Making decisions and Solving problems-Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solutions and solve problems * Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machine, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to insure quality of production. * Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment Discover the benefits of working for one of the largest specialty manufacturers in the Southwest.
