Summary

The CNC Programmer/Operator will work under the guidance of the Campbellsville Pre-Fabrication Department Supervisor and will gather feedback and work to implement improvements for processes, fixturing, and tooling.

The CNC Programmer / Operator will report to the plant Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Machine planning by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, locations of surfaces and machining parameters.

  • Ability to visually inspect steel parts for accurate specifications for both raw steel and finished parts using tools such as calipers and micrometers.

  • Use computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly.

  • Perform quality assurance tests to ensure products meet design specifications.

  • Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality.

  • Consider tools required to cut specific materials.

  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run parts, and sample workpieces adhering to standards.

  • Fix and resolve problems with machines as they arise.

  • Maintains safe operation of CNC machines and devices.

  • Maintains equipment by completion of P.M.s.

  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by detailing and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

  • Wear the required personal protective equipment and follow safety rules and procedures.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Must be diligent and self-motivated. Must possess effective communication skills, both in person and electronically. Must have proven proficiency with computers, electronic equipment, general maintenance tools, and quality inspection tools. Must have strong mathematical competence and ability to apply this knowledge to real-world manufacturing processes. Must be willing to work cross-functionally with other departments as needed. Must be a critical thinker, willing to drive solutions to achieve resolution.

Education and/or Experience:

3 - 5 years' experience in working with lasers, plasma cutters, and associated programming in an industrial manufacturing setting. Experience with Mitsubishi lasers is a plus. CNC or CAD Certification, or an associate degree in mathematics or engineering is preferred, but not required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and take care of several abstract and concrete variables.

Digital Literacy

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of CNC and AutoCAD software and an understanding of Microsoft Office Software utilities.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wide range of temperatures, humid conditions, moving machinery, dust, fumes, gases, odors, vibrations, and varying noise levels.

There is a high noise level throughout the plant and hearing protection must always be worn while in the plant during production. Wearing other proper protective equipment including metatarsal safety shoes and eye protection is always required.
