MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Selects, measures, assembles, and sets up machines and tools such as drill bits and milling or cutting tools using precision gauges and instruments. Mounts, installs, aligns, and secures tools, attachments, fixtures, and work piece on machine using hand tools and precision measuring instruments. Determines specifications or procedures for tooling set-up, machine operation, work piece dimensions, or numerical control sequences using blueprints, instructions, and machine knowledge. Calculates and sets machine controls to position tools, or regulates cutting depth, speed, feed, or coolant flow


(All tools are required to be verified and calibrated through the Quality Assurance Department before their first use)

The following tools are required for the CNC Department:

0 - 1 inch O.D. Mic

0 - 6 inch caliper

Torque wrenches: 8 - 10 - 15

Toolbox (with lock)

Standard Allen wrench set

Metric Allen wrench set

6" Steel rule

Radius gage set

Needle Nose Pliers

Regular Pliers



  • Pass required Company math and CNC Test
  • Possess good problem solving skills and ability to read required gages and tools.
  • A minimum of 5-8 years of CNC Machining Center experience required. This includes working knowledge of machine set up and operation, checking offsets and changing inserts.
  • Must be able to check competed parts for proper dimensions. Be able to set up lathes and/or mills with very little or no assistance.
  • CNC Machinist Technical School course work or CNC Boot Camp certificate is desirable.
  • Previous experience with horizontal Mazak, Fanuc controls and G and M code editing desirable.
  • Operate and set up all production equipment and have the ability to use micrometers, calipers, SPC charting and other gauging.
  • Availability for overtime hours as needed or required.

Essential Duties 1.Perform maintenance and repair work on highways, parks, buildings and facilities. 2.Operate equipment used in highway and park construction and maintenance. 3.Plow snow and salt icy roads and parking lots. 4.Prepare maintenance and construction grades. 5.Perform daily operator maintenance checks and preventative maintenance. 6.Move equipment from one project to another. 7.Operate spraying equipment. 8.Report problems to dispatcher and management and receive instructions via 2-way radio. 9.Perform minor repair on machinery and equipment. Supervision Received Receives supervision from the Assistant Superintendent, Public Works. Qualifications * High school diploma or GED. * One (1) year experience involving the operation of machinery, tools, and equipment used in highway construction and maintenance * Valid Wisconsin Class ABCD commercial driver's license. * Have or have the ability to obtain tanker endorsement within six months of employment. * Prompt and regular attendance. Knowledge Skills & Abilities * Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. * Ability to keep accurate daily reports and records. * Ability to follow oral and written instructions. * Ability to work well and communicate effectively with co-workers, the public and management at all times. * Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in the area of related maintenance or construction work. Physical Qualifications * Continuous (67-100% of workday) hearing, use of far and near vision, light intensity of handling and exerting up to 20 pounds of force with fingers. * Frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing using legs and arms for support, ascending and descending ladders, balancing, bending/twisting, reaching, feeling and medium intensity handling and fingering and exerting up to 50 pounds of force. * Occasional (1-33% of workday) sitting, crawling, talking and high intensity fingering and exerting up to 100 pounds of force. Working Conditions * Continuous (67-100% of workday) exposure to fast moving vehicles and mechanical hazards. * Frequent (34-66% of workday) exposure to the outside with no effective protection from weather, extreme cold, and temperature changes. * Occasional (1-33% of workday) exposure to extreme heat, wet or humid conditions, noise, vibrations; exposure to electrical, chemical, burns, radiation, heights above 12 ft hazards; exposure to fumes, noxious odors, dust, poor ventilation and physically confined work sites. Equipment Used Hand tools such as hammers, power tools, chainsaw, and shovel/broom; transportation vehicles such as an automobile and 35,000 GVW truck; highway machinery, construction or building maintenance equipment; personal protective equipment such as breathing apparatus, steel tip boots, and hearing and eye protection; tractors, and a 2-way radio.
