Summary: Operates multi-axis numerical control milling machine to mill surfaces of metallic work pieces. 4 Positions available on Day Shift and 4 Positions available on Second Shift.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Enters commands into control panel, to retrieve preprogrammed machine data from computer.
Inserts precision indicator in machine spindle, and depresses switches to jog spindle into contact with work piece, synchronize tape and tool, and record setup point.
Retracts spindle and loads and secures first preset tool and holder.
Starts machine and observes cutting operation.
Compares numerical data display with specifications on operations sheet.
Assembles and presets tooling for next operation during automated cycle to reduce machine downtime.
Replaces milling tools with drilling and boring tools at specified change points to reduce or eliminate subsequent machining of work piece on another machine.
Operates machine on preliminary dry run before machining first part to detect errors in tape or computer program.
Tightens bolts or turns knobs or hand wheels to specified points on scale or dial to reset and maintain original setup of machine.
Tends one or more work stations of mechanized line of machines operating in tandem.
At least two years required experience with setting up machines.
