Job Description:

Machine Shop Technician

The Machine Shop Technician is responsible for repairing down equipment in the facility, including troubleshooting issues with equipment, the installation of new equipment and/or relocation of existing equipment. The Machine Shop Technician together with the Maintenance Electrician and/or other personnel will troubleshoot equipment issues to determine the root issue (mechanical or electrical) of all equipment problems. The mechanic will consult with MDS on making a part or purchases for manufacture part, and will have to respond to emergencies.

Job Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Respond to down equipment by means of repair request

  • Troubleshoot down equipment

  • Look in manual for replacement part, if the part is not available or to long of lead time then see if MSD will be able to make part or design a part

  • The installation or repair of air line/water line

  • Respond to facility plumbing issue

  • Make sure all safety procedures are followed (lock out tag out)

  • Make a material list after equipment requirements are known, for the proper installation

  • Works with outside manufacture service engineer to repair downed equipment

  • Call the manufacture of down equipment after we have exhausted all of our resources at Vance and Hines to cut down time and Cost of sending out a service engineer

  • Maintain stock of frequently used parts/material used to minimize shipping and down time

Previous Experience Required

  • Must have a minimum of 2+ years repairing CNC machines or similar type of machinery

  • Previous experience repairing Mazak, Bender and Mills and Lathes (tearing down, trouble shooting).

Position Requirements * High school diploma or equivalent with a technical school education and working machinist knowledge or equivalent. * Minimum 3 years of CNC machine tool Programming & Operating experience. * Numerical control machining skills experience and ability to read and interpret work related machine drawings. * Make average to complicated mathematical calculations and resolve elementary technical problems. * NC Programmer/Operator will be compensated in accordance with defined expertise, experience and production efficiency. * Can operate a minimum of 2 CNC machine tools. * Possesses previous experience as a Manual machinist. * Must be detail oriented; be able to work independently using sound judgment. * Good verbal, written, problem solving and organization skills required. * Capable of handling multiple priorities. * Ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Physical/Mental Requirements * Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours. * Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant * Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds. * Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area. * Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment. * Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments. * Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. * Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
