CNC Lathe Development Machinist!

In this role, you will be responsible for performing precision machining operations to create, repair or alter a wide variety of complex parts, fixtures, tooling, sub-assemblies, and assemblies of all types of materials.

Your day-to-day activities will include:

  • Creation, rework and repair of tooling and fixturing as well as development, prototype, R&D and production hardware in the form of piece parts or components.

o This includes planning, fixturing and layout of the job and can involve establishing extremely close tolerances, critical surfaces and finishes.

o Additionally, some skilled bench work may be required such as filing, scraping, lapping, fitting, timing, indexing, assembling, and adjusting to insure satisfactory operation.

  • Responsibility for the inspection and quality of all work performed, including detecting unusual conditions, defective materials, as well as recognizing errors in blueprints and operation sheets.

  • Working to a well-defined set of instructions, however technical decisions are expected in the areas of fixturing, tooling, set-up, and inspection methods.

  • Collecting data for studies and analysis.

We would like for you to meet the following education and experience requirements:

  • You must have a High School Diploma plus 7 years Machinist experience OR an Associate's Degree in a related field plus 3 years Machinist experience OR Additional Trades Training plus 3 years Machinist experience.

  • The ability to fully setup, run, and program various CNC Lathe platforms working on hardware that requires close tolerances, positional accuracy and fine surface finishes.

  • Strong programming skills especially in UG & NX.

  • A working knowledge of part processing is extremely important!

  • The ability to interpret complex drawings, sketches, and operation sheets.

  • Carry out multi-step processes with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Setup and run CNC equipment as well as manual/conventional equipment with minimal guidance or supervision; this may include editing and creating programs associated with CNC equipment.

  • Able to run several different types of machines with concentration or specialization in one area.

  • Effectively navigate web-based computer applications as well as Moog Business Systems and database programs.

Moog Aircraft Group is looking for a Senior Process Development Leader (PDL) for our aerospace plant in East Aurora, NY. In this role, you will provide leadership, facilitation, coaching, training and mentoring in a team-based organization for the planning and implementation of strategies to achieve optimum utilization of resources and a continuous improvement philosophy. The strategies may include, but are not limited to, lean and continuous improvement activities, Lean Management System, Operations Production System, teaming, six sigma, value stream organization and facilitative leadership. This position relies upon the influence of others to accomplish specific goals and objectives. The PDL needs to strike a balance between leading, active participation and coaching to develop the solution(s) and implement them. The responsibility ideally, is to guide a team through a process that includes rapid cycles of education, application of that education, implementation of a change, and evaluation of results. Here's what you'll work on: * Develop processes that enable the implementation of lean, our Lean Management System (LMS), our Operations Production System, team and process variation reduction principles (Six Sigma) * Provide stability within Teams, Divisions and/or Groups while encouraging, inspiring, motivating and challenging others to continuously improve * Coach to solve problems, remove barriers, work with other cross-functional departments and conduct organized, effective meetings * Conduct / support lean workshops, project teams, project management of our LMS, PVR (Six Sigma) effort * Provide process improvement support to all divisions and operating units across Moog & support the necessity to implement process improvements and teams with a sense of urgency * Encourage, motivate and foster an environment for employees to be receptive to change * Plan, organize, conduct and follow-up on projects, tasks and/or events with the ability to switch back and forth between facilitative leader and driver as situations dictate * Perform a variety of duties, changing often from one task to another without loss of focus or purpose while identifying and defining problems, evaluating alternatives, and implementing cost-effective solutions * Understand and communicate company policies, procedures, vision, goals, and safety regulations to the teams and encouraging ownership for manufacturing and/or operational strategic planning initiatives (i.e. S&OP, Balanced Scorecard, etc.) * Participate and assist in formal training, the facilitating of teams and providing mentoring opportunities for individuals * Continuously expand knowledge of lean tools and techniques Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 8+ years of Lean Process Improvement experience OR Master's Degree from an accredited institution and 4+ years of Lean Process Improvement experience * Specific continuous improvement experience in lean and/or Six Sigma with demonstrated proficiency in tools such as product family analysis, value stream mapping, process mapping, 5S, flow and pull methods and tools, advanced problem solving, SMED, 3P, visual controls, gemba walks, process variation reduction, error proofing, measurement system analysis, process capability studies, Design of Experiments, kaizen event planning and execution, etc. * 3-5 years of leadership and supervision experience preferred. * Proficient in facilitative leadership. * Due to federal contract obligations, must be a US citizen or US Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder) * Willingness to travel approximately 10%, as necessary, both nationally and internationally. Preferred Qualifications Include: * Prefer that the Bachelor's Degree is in Industrial Engineering * Experience leading an organization through a lean transformation * Advanced Process Variation Reduction (PVR) skills * Experience training and coaching teams to achieve process improvement using Lean methodologies and tools * 4+ years of Lean Process Improvement experience in Manufacturing * LSSBB certification is a plus * Formal certifications in Lean and/or Six Sigma, strongly desired * Knowledge of, and experience working within, the Toyota Production System (TPS) * Experience leading and facilitating Kaizen events * Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels within the organization; ability to influence.
