  • The role you will contribute:

Performs clinical tasks and responsibilities specific to the Certified Nursing Assistant in a safe, therapeutic and competent manner to meet the needs for basic patient care management under the general and direct supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse /Licensed Practical Nurse. Primarily assists the patient and the nurse to accomplish quality patient care outcomes and customer satisfaction in the Nursing Services Department. Functions as an active team member in the delivery of safe, competent, therapeutic and cost effective patient care for the following patient populations: geriatrics, adult, adolescent and pediatric. Demonstrates effective use and support of the Florida Hospital Service Standards within the hospital and clinical setting.

Responsibility to adhere to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance plan, to the rules and regulations of all local, state, and Federal agencies, and to the standards of all accrediting bodies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Remains flexible to changing systems, is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.

  • Assists in formulating, implementing and evaluation of person-centered individualized plan of care for each patient based on identified needs/problems in collaboration with interdisciplinary team, the patient/significant others.

  • Performs routine Certified Nursing Assistant tasks and routines in a safe, competent, therapeutic and cost-effective manner include but not limited to the following:

o Maintains respect and privacy of patients at all times.

o Assists patients with their activities of daily living including but not limited to basic hygiene, skin care, nutritional and dietary needs, elimination needs, physical activity, pursuit of activities of choice, and comfort measures.

o Performs basic patient care unit routines including but not limited to the following: obtain and document vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respirations), pass ice water, pass meals, and routine rounding/patient observations.

o Documentation of tasks performed

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability in communicating and providing and documenting basic care to patients admitted to TCU in a caring, compassionate manner to accomplish quality patient care outcomes and patient satisfaction.

o Provide patient care in a professional, caring, compassionate and respectful manner.

o Maintains and practices service standards with use of effective communication skills (active listening and clarifying as necessary) with members of the Florida Hospital healthcare team, patients and families

o Respond to patients request and needs in a timely manner.

o Maintain a positive, courteous, and compassionate attitude with all Patients/Visitors/Staff and Physicians.

o Maintain respect/privacy/dignity of the patient at all times during and after the delivery of patient care.

o Inform Patient of planned care tasks and activities that will be carried out.

o Maintains Patient satisfaction by providing and maintaining personal care/needs such as but not limited to the following:

§ Fresh ice water/cups/straws

§ Elimination needs

§ Assist with ambulating/transfers OOB to Chair/ BSC or to Bathroom.

§ Timely response to requests

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to provide care and maintain safety to TCU patients.

  • Recognize the individual needs of each patient during the delivery of care.

o Recognize the need for additional safety measures (i.e.: high risk for falls).

o Conduct purposeful patient rounds.

o Promptly responds to call lights and patient care needs.

o Notifies the appropriate Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with any deviation from routine or assigned tasks for assistance and review of any situation and observation, which would require nursing evaluation or intervention.

o Assists the nurse in the process of Admissions/Transfers/Discharges/Pre-Op/Post-Op per hospital routine.

o Demonstrates the ability to organize, prioritize, and complete the various tasks, duties, and routines of a busy patient care workload.

o Takes meal breaks/breaks as assigned. Keeps nurse informed of whereabouts on the unit and when leaving and returning to the nursing unit from errands or break.

o Demonstrates positive and supportive behavior in receiving direction from the nursing personnel.

o Readily assists nursing personnel as needed and instructed throughout shift.

o Able to accept coaching, guidance, counseling and constructive feedback and demonstrates improvement concerning job performance and responsibilities.

o Demonstrates ability to utilize time in a productive and effective manner to meet the needs of the nursing unit both independently and under the direction and guidance of the nurse.

o Maintains a safe environment at change of shift hours, conducts patient rounds monitoring for all patient call lights and rooms for the safety and basic needs.

  • Demonstrates responsibility to adhere to the Advent Health DeLand corporate compliance plan to the rules and regulations of all local state and federal agencies and to the standards of all accrediting bodies .

o Communicates observed (verbal and nonverbal) and reported complaints of pain to the appropriate nurse and/or charge nurse.

o Observes for and provides comfort measures as indicated to patients within the scope of practice

  • Demonstrates safety and efficient cost-effective outcomes with use of all supplies

o Consistently uses supplies, linen, materials and equipment in a safe and cost effective manner.

o Demonstrates consistent practice in utilizing the proper charge process for use of all patient and unit supplies per unit procedure.

o Functions as a productive member of the Advent Health Deland TCU healthcare team in providing cost effective quality patient care.

  • Demonstrates ability to be accountable /responsible and reliable by adhering to the Advent Health Deland TCU organization and departmental policy and procedures.

o Conduct, attendance, performance and dress conforms to the organizational and department policy and procedures.

  • Completes required Performance Improvement documentation in a timely manner.

  • Reports problems or concerns regarding the quality and appropriateness of patient care delivered to the immediate supervisor.

  • Contributes to the fulfillment of the organization's mission.

  • Actively participates in Patient Experience initiatives (i.e.: rounding).

  • Demonstrates clear, concise communication about patient care to members of the healthcare team, patient and family.

o Any justified complaints received regarding attitude, conduct and/or performance will be addressed with corrective action.

  • Demonstrates the team concept and works in a cooperative manner with all co-workers and supervisory staff.

  • Utilizes the appropriate chain of command to resolve conflicts.

  • Conduct, attendance and dress conform to organizational standards of performance.
