Provide system administration support functions to a 250-300 server environment consisting predominantly of Cloud and on-premise Microsoft, Active Directory, VMware, HyperV, and Citrix systems. This includes planning, analysis, troubleshooting, integration, installation, configuration, operations, and maintenance of operating system on servers. Schedule installations and upgrades and maintain them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures. Monitor and tune the system to achieve optimum performance levels. Ensure workstation/server data integrity by evaluating, implementing, and managing appropriate software and hardware solutions. Ensure data/media recoverability by implementing a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Develop and promote standard operating procedures. Conduct routine hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines. Apply in-depth knowledge of system administration functions and work on and/or lead complex assignments or projects. Solve problems of a complex and/or diverse scope. Work independently and receive minimal guidance on work assignments.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take a lead role in transforming DFA from hosting and on-premise solutions to pure cloud IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environment

  • Partner with third-party SaaS providers and third-party development partners on integration, including security and Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML)

  • Lead the rollout of various virtualization technologies and multi-tenant, private, and hybrid cloud environments

  • Lead the development of automation tools, such as Power Shell, Puppet, Ansible, or Chef

  • Recommend storage technologies to be implemented

  • Set direction for performing daily system monitoring to include verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes; reviewing system and application logs; and verifying completion of scheduled jobs, such as backups

  • Lead the install of new and/or of rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc., in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements

  • Lead the installation and configuration of systems, such as Active Directory, DFS, and File and Print services

  • Lead the installation and configuration of vendor software running IT utilities or business applications

  • Lead in the development and maintenance of installation and configuration procedures

  • Provide guidance for maintaining system standards

  • Drive ideas for automating and orchestrating infrastructure tasks

  • Perform automation tasks as agreed upon

  • Perform and lead others in security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions

  • Lead in the design and management of Active directory including Organizational Unit (OU), Group, and User related tasks

  • Provide systems administration related solutions for various project and operational needs

  • Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure

  • Study existing information processing systems to evaluate effectiveness and supply information to the senior team for improvement roadmap

  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary

  • Provide Tier II/advanced support. Investigate and troubleshoot issues

  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted business group(s)

  • Lead efforts to ensure the following tasks are properly handled:

  • apply operating system (OS) patches and upgrades on a regular basis

  • upgrade administrative tools and utilities

  • configure / add new services as necessary

  • Audit hardware/software to ensure compliance with organization guidelines

  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures

  • Maintain a database/library of all supporting documentation for hardware and software

  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required

  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment

  • Take a lead role in the installation and support of cloud infrastructure (e.g., Azure, AWS)
