The Cloud Ops Engineer works under the Head of Cloud Operations in direct support of the production cloud operations.
The roles and responsibilities of the Cloud Ops Engineer can be divided into to work performed to stand up a new instance of the service for a client and the continuity and delivery of the service for live clients.
The Cloud Ops Engineer must have a working knowledge of AWS.
Launching new server instances through AWS or any other supported cloud hosting service.
Releasing new software into existing, live instances.
Creating new base instances for servers to support the latest versions and configurations.
Monitoring and maintaining all cloud instances at each point in the to ensure overall system availability and performance.
Responding to monitoring alerts, performs troubleshooting to resolve incidents, and escalating complex issues to the development team.
Communicating with customers, engineers and other technical support teams to prevent and potential network incident risks.
Generating technical reports on the status of the instances operations including the availability, incidents numbers and resolutions.
The Clouds Ops Engineer should have a good working knowledge with most of the following and demonstrate an ability to learn new technologies quickly:

Linux firewalld and SELinux management
VPC private network
VPC security groups for access security
EBS storage, S3, EFS
ELB load balancing
EIP Elastic IP
Snapshots and back-ups
Route53 for public DNS
Release Automation technologies such as Cloud Formation, Chef, Puppet, etc.
DataDog, New Relic/App Dynamics or similar for monitoring
AlertLogic for intrusion detection system (IDS) and Syslog
CloudPassage for 2 form authentication and file integrity checks
Vyatta (3rd party on VPC premise) firewall and VPN device
Skeddly for snapshot scheduling and automation
Linux System D, DNS management, EBS storage, Redhat Identity Manager, AWS
