The City of Norfolk's Community Services Board is seeking a Virginia-Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Clinical Social Worker.

The selected candidate will assess and treat patients seeking services from the Norfolk Community Services Board (CSB). May perform assessments on individuals/groups suffering from mental illness, issues resulting from substance abuse and/or other physical or mental ailments. Makes recommendations regarding the development of treatment plans for patients, which may involve referring patients to outside services.

The Norfolk Community Services Board (NCSB) provides treatment, support, and education to the community with a focus on mental illness, substance use addiction, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Norfolk CSB provides services to persons in acute crisis as well as integrated, person-centered, and recovery-oriented programming for persons needing assistance and support stabilizing in the community.

Today, the CSB provides treatment and rehabilitation services to over 6,000 Norfolk citizens yearly. Norfolk CSB seeks team members interested in providing skilled services in a public service environment. We are also seeking persons to join our team that are dedicated to supporting a positive work and treatment environment that instills hope and recovery opportunities for the persons we serve.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Provides comprehensive assessments for persons with substance abuse and or co-occurring disorders.

  • Develops individualized treatment plans which respond to the needs of the person served and their family as identified by the assessment.

  • Participates in case reviews as a member of the inter-disciplinary team.

  • Determines from assessments the appropriate services to be provided, the most appropriate services, providers, and ensures that the person served is linked with those services.

  • Provides individual, group and family counseling services as outlined in each treatment plan.

  • Provides crisis counseling on an as needed basis.

  • Teaches psycho-educational classes and revises curriculum as needed.

  • Keeps up to date, well documented records which comply with Federal, State, and agency requirements

  • Monitors persons receiving services from other service providers and advocates for the person to ensure accessibility and acceptability of services.

  • Collects and reports service statistics and data on persons served as required.

  • Processes admissions and discharges in an appropriate and timely manner in accordance to agency standards.

  • Participates in regular supervision as agreed upon with their direct supervisor and consults with other team members.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of special projects, e.g. specialized groups, etc.

  • Conducts regular and random drug screens and Breathalyzers.

  • Performs other work related projects as assigned

Education/Experience

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through six years of college resulting in a Master's degree or equivalent in a human services field.

Two years' experience in a human services field, preferably in the treatment of mental illness or substance abuse; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information & Requirements

  • VA Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Clinical Social Worker.

  • Must be certified or certifiable in Basic First Aid and CPR.

  • Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment.
