Position Clinical Therapist Full Time/Part Time Full Time Job Type Regular Position Summary
Provide a range of clinical assessments and diagnostic, therapeutic, and/or case management services for students. Will work under the direct guidance of the Director of Health and Wellness Resources. May provide practical training and guidance to students and/or professional staff. Ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Additionally, this position serves as a direct resource for students and provides emergency support to students after hours. The position requires clinical licensure.
In an effort to support the wellness of the overall student community, the NMHU Division of Student Affairs recognizes that student well-being must be viewed within the context of holistic development, the larger community, and as comprehensive/wraparound services that assist in addressing health disparities, the causes of health disparities and the impact on the NMHU community and various minoritized communities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the intake and triage of students in distress;
Serve as point of contact for inquiries to CARES, address and respond to referrals made to CARES, including direct contact with students, families, faculty, and staff;
Works closely with the Accessibility Services Office regarding care coordination for students receiving accommodations;
Assess student needs, trends, and program impacts using appropriate assessment tools and research;
Collaborate with the Director of Health Education and Wellness to plan, and implement wellness training and workshops that have a high likelihood of students' increased access to care and improved personal outcomes;
Identify, collaborate with, and refer students to campus and community resources;
Serve as point of contact for inquiries to CARES, address and respond to referrals made to CARES, including direct contact with students, families, faculty, and staff;
Provide counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to students as appropriate to the position.
Complete comprehensive assessment: prepare treatment plans, discharge plans, and follow-up care if needed;
Consult with other therapists and related professionals and staff, as appropriate, in the performance of therapeutic and/or casework; refer students to appropriate service agencies as required;
Participate in SBIST meetings and collaboration;
Provide and/or arrange for therapeutic interventions to include but not limited to emergency services and crisis intervention for individuals with serious emotional or behavioral challenges;
Refer students to appropriate agencies for various resources and other required services dependent on need;
Follow up to determine the reliability of treatment used; change method and degree of therapy when appropriate;
Consult with other legal and treatment agencies and individuals in relation to patient/client records, rights, and responsibilities;
May provide formal teaching, consultation, and in-service training to relevant professionals in the immediate proper handling of and/or referral of a variety of matters;
Provide casework management of a specialized caseload, as appropriate to the requirements of the individual position; perform research and case assessments; prepare individualized studies for admission, placement, and/or discharge;
Promote and use best practices in treatment;
Maintain regular attendance;
Perform other related duties as assigned;
Minimum Job Requirements
REQUIRED:
Licensure in one of the following areas:
Licensed Master Social Worker
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Licensed Independent Social Worker
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor
Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with minorities, low-income students, students from diverse backgrounds and students with disabilities;
Experience in higher education or advising and providing direction to students;
Special Conditions for Eligibility
Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, holidays, odd hours, and emergency calls.
Must be willing to carry a University-provided cell phone.
Must be willing to work in a shared office space with others outside of the department.

Knowledge of evidence-based programs;
Knowledge of New Mexico and federal statutes;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Ability to demonstrate discretion in dealing with student confidentiality;
Ability to interpret policy and procedures;
Physical Demands
Repetitive hand motion and prolonged use of a computer.
Sitting for extended periods of time.
Occasionally lifting items at or around 50 pounds
Working Environment
Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
Work with frequent interruptions.
