Purpose and Scope: The Clinical Technician III works under the direct supervision of the RN and is an active member of the health care team.

Under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse, the Clinical Technician performs a variety of routie duties involving the care of patients including performing direct patient care or activities of daily living, observing changes in the status of patients, providing a clean and safe environment, transporting patients, and other related duties. Clinical Technicians must be empathetic and have good communication and nursing skills to care for patients.

Position Requirements:

A. Academic: High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

B. Experience: Minimum of one year of Clinical Technician II or equivalent Clinical experience as defined in the CORE skills for Clinical Technician III; or Minimum of one year Virginia Hospital Center Clinical Technician II who has successfully completed the Virginia Hospital Center Clinical Technician III education; or Completed a training program (i.e.

CNA, EMT) meeting CORE skills and competencies for Clinical Technician III; or Successfull completion of Virginia Hospital Center Nurse Externship Program. Working knowledge of Medical Terminology.

C. Certification/License: BLS for Healthcare Provider required, CNA license preferred.


D. Essential Duties and

Responsibilities:

Assists residents with dressing, bathing, oral hygiene and related personal care. Serves food, feeds residents and collects trays when necessary. Maintains clean and dry bed, changes bed linen, gathers and deposits soiled laundry.

Lifts residents in and out of beds and wheelchair, positions residents when necessary. Observes residents to report physical and behavioral symptoms to medical personnel in charge. Takes and records resident's blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration and weight.

Communicates with members of the healthcare team, patients, and visitors using oral and written means and equipment such as answering the telephone and call bell and greeting visitors. Assembles and prepares new patients charts as instructed; keeps accurate patient records; files patient data; purges and archives patient information; maintains reminder information; reviews charts regularly to ensure accuracy and completeness of records in accordance with policies and procedures. Maintains confidentiality of patient information.

Prepares special forms such as release of information; obtains hospital medical records, as needed. Transcribes doctors orders per policy.
