Job Description:

The purpose of the Clinical Research internship is to increase awareness and understanding of the functions of the clinical research group in the orthopedic device industry. Clinical research involves investigatory studies via collaborative relationships between companies and researchers like large universities and medical institutions to explore whether a medical device is safe and effective for humans. These studies also may show which medical approaches work best for certain devices and treatments for groups of people and the possible side effects related to the treatment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities can include:

  • Provides support to the clinical department to assist with execution and maintenance of clinical studies

  • Assist in the execution of clinical test plans to support Investigatory Device Exemption (IDE) approvals

  • Maintains, updates, and may establish various spreadsheets/databases for clinical tracking

  • Maintains clinical operations files

  • Responsible for ordering and shipping supplies in coordination with all phases of the clinical studies, maintains files and inventories of supplies and equipment

  • Prepares, processes, logs and distributes completed case report forms and other study materials

  • Tracks incoming and outgoing clinical and regulatory documents and updates for investigator sites. Prepares materials and attends investigator meetings

  • Assists with preparing FDA and other reports. Supports departmental ordering, bill paying, and other clerical duties

  • Ensure data completeness, maintaining research files, providing information to participants regarding research protocols and procedures

  • Conduct basic statistical analyses

  • Organize and present clinical research plans, status reports, and/or results to leadership

  • Other assigned responsibilities or special projects, as needed

  • Shadow various clinical research associates


The intern will be currently enrolled as a full-time college student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and preferably in a life sciences degree program. The intern will have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Sharepoint.

Strong business acumen is also required to translate successful account strategy into business results. * Develops and manages a business plan to meet or exceed business goals agreed upon with Thermo Fisher Scientific commercial management for the territory. * Effectively competes to win projects vs. competitors. Successfully position our solutions to address performance, workflow and budget. * Manage clinical lab assay utilization. Drive additional assay utilization across your accounts and target new customers and customers not using our instruments and assays.
