JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Support Specialist will be part of the interdisciplinary care team to support day to day operations at a fast paced, rural health clinic, Clemson Health Clinic at Walhalla. This position is open to certified medical assistants, licensed practical nurses and registered nurses and compensation will be based on credentials and experience. Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

50% - Essential

  • Patient Care Coordination:

Accurately documents patient intake, including vital signs, medical and social history, symptoms/complaints and nursing assessment. Utilizes standing orders, triage protocols, and algorithms appropriately. Monitors patient flow in clinic, ensuring timely receipt of services. Administers certain medications, injections, immunizations and family planning options as ordered by provider and within license scope of practice. Manages prescription refills per protocol and responds to patient messages and questions. Provides patient education within scope of practice.

20% - Essential

  • Specimen Collection and Handling:

Identifies patient and verify demographics, including insurance information; completes lab orders, requisition and specimen labeling, ensuring accuracy of CPT codes as related to diagnosis codes; collects and processes specimens by appropriate procedure for analysis with accurate documentation; ensures patient safety and specimen integrity by employing aseptic techniques; practices infection control standards at all times; coordinates specimen tracking by courier to reference laboratory and results upload to electronic medical record.

10% - Essential

  • Inventory Supply Management:

Inventories, orders and stocks all medical supplies; Performs weekly reconciliation of in house medications and vaccinations, reports any discrepancies; Orders and transports in-house medications and vaccinations. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Performs daily instrument check-offs, quality controls and routine maintenance on laboratory equipment per CLIA regulations. Coordinates biomedical waste disposal. Monitors compliance with all legal and regulatory standards (OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, etc.).

  • Facilitation of patient/group activity through technology:

Responsible for inputting patient level data into electronic health record and other platforms (e.g., MyChart, Carium). Responsible for registering patients, documenting progress, and connecting with clinicians as necessary. Facilitates use of telepathy platforms and mobile health solutions in support of lifestyle education. Utilizes appropriate technology to recruit, track and communicate with patients, including social media. Assists clinicians with remote patient monitoring of chronic disease.

  • Clinical Research and Sponsored Programs Support:

Actively participates in clinical research and sponsored programs activities through direct patient engagement, data collection and lifestyle education. Maintains CITI and other trainings as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing

Licenses

  • Nurse

  • LPN Licensed Practical

Certfications

  • Cardio Pulminary Resc

Work Exp 2+ years

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

While an RN is preferred, certified medical assistants and licensed practical nurses will be considered.

Experience working with underserved and rural populations; bilingual Spanish; experience working with research and clinical trials.

CITI training or other clinical trials certification.

Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, Standard Hrs: 37.5

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Band: 06 ($ 45,530.00 - $ 84,241.00)

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Essential Level 1 employee

Required to respond during an emergency closure or modified operations in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on-call.
