CLINICAL SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Responsibilities
Clinical Support Specialist - Job Functions
Manages all daily clinical records functions including establishing and implementing clinical records
Ensures clinical record systems are maintained in compliance with state, federal and ACHC regulations
Maintains comprehensive working knowledge of state, federal, and ACHC documentation regulations and serves as a resource for appropriate organization personnel
Protects all clinical records through the establishment and implementation of control procedures for all open and closed records
Protects the confidentiality of patient and organization information through effective controls and direct supervision of clinical records
Forwards copies of clinical records to authorized users according to policy
Completes an administrative record audit following patient discharge and forwards the record to the Clinical Director for clinical audit
Monitors aged unsigned physician orders and submits second and third requests for signed orders to overdue physicians, calls or visits the offices of seriously overdue physicians

Qualifications
Clinical Support Specialist- Job Qualifications
Must be able to concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment
Must be able to communicate and function in an interdisciplinary team
Must practice regular and dependable attendance per company policy and procedure
Must have valid driver's license and auto liability insurance
Must have knowledge of governmental regulations and JCAHO standards (if applicable)
Must have at least three (3) years experience in clinical records management, preferably in hospice care operations.
Information Systems knowledge required
Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct clerical personnel knowledge of corporate business management, governmental regulations, and ACHC standard.
Demonstrates autonomy, organization, assertiveness, flexibility and cooperation in performing job responsibilities
Environmental and Working Conditions
Works in office environment. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. Subject to frequent interruptions. May work beyond normal working hours. Attends and participates in continuing education programs
