Nursing Administration

Full Time, 40 hrs. / week, Day Shift ( 7:30 AM 4:00 PM)

Weekends Not Required

Summary

Manages daily operation of office which includes providing administrative support to Directors and supervising clerical/administrative support staff who also support Directors of Nursing.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly supports Directors of Nursing which includes managing their calendars.

  • Maintains adequate office coverage on a day-to-day basis.

  • Communicates new information to the staff that will affect them and their work.

  • Communicates with the staff to review and exchange information and ideas.

  • Provides input and makes recommendations to the Directors of Nursing regarding policies and selection of new equipment.

  • Effectively directs and monitors inventory control and ensures needed supplies are available.

  • Participates in the interview, selection, mentor, discipline, and termination of subordinate staff.

  • Completes performance appraisals in conjunction with Directors of Nursing.

  • Assumes additional related duties as assigned or needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Work requires the level of knowledge typically acquired through completion of two years of occupationally-specific education or an Associate's degree and two years of previous lead or supervisory experience

  • Work requires the analytical skills necessary to resolve problems requiring a professional level of knowledge in a specific discipline/field and/or improve enhance or upgrade complex clinical, financial, data processing, marketing or human resources systems and programs.

  • Work requires the communication skills necessary to effectively manage the employees within assigned department and to persuade and negotiate with peer-level managers on issues and programs that impact the department. Work requires effectively dealing with conflicting views or issues and mediating fair and workable solutions.

  • Must complete the Training Checklist for Managers and Supervisors (described in the Training Catalog under Management Development Curriculum) within twelve months of employment/promotion date.

Required Physical, Mental, and Visual Abilities

  • Work requires pulling, pushing, lifting, reaching and grasping objects.

  • Work requires proofreading and/or reviewing documents.

Working Conditions

Work is generally performed in an inpatient and outpatient clinical environment where exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions may exist. Work requires maintaining standard safety precautions for self and patient at all times.

This position aids in developing and administering hospital and department goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Partners with Directors and Assistant Directors of Nursing to ensure that all support needs are met. Monitors and finds suitable resolutions to routine daily problems. Performance and attendance issues of support staff are discussed with the appropriate Directors/Assistant Directors for counseling and follow up.
