Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Adolescent Mental Health, the Clinical Supervisor will understand that START's Adolescent Mental Health Program is a unique initiative contracted through NYC Administration for Children's Services to provide mental health services to adolescents detained at the 2 secure detention sites in Brooklyn & Bronx.

This program focuses on a multi- disciplinary approach involving multiple teams (Psychiatrists & Psychologists from Bellevue Hospital, Doctors & Physician's assistants from The Floating Hospital) working together & willing to commit to providing services to juvenile justice involved youth who have experienced repeated traumas.

The program emphasizes the use of evidence based practice in the areas of Trauma Informed Care & Substance Use & focuses on on-going trainings & collaborations to sustain this objective. The combination of clinical experience gained along with supervision & training also supports continued requirements for professional licensure.

The Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical oversight of the mental health teams located at Horizon Juvenile Center, Bronx or Crossroads Juvenile Center, Brooklyn. The Clinical Supervisor is the team leader who is dynamic & creative in ensuring the provision of mental health services to a difficult to engage population. Additionally, the Clinical Supervisor maintains a crucial responsibility to be a role model- constantly reflecting the value of the mental health team & the services provided.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the provision of quality mental health services through a variety of clinical practice modalities and multidisciplinary team collaboration. Provide clinical services to residents utilizing professional knowledge, values, and skills.

  • Conduct evidence based screenings and in depth mental health assessments

  • Develop and implement treatment plans as indicated and collaborate with all members of the DYFJ team to formulate and implement behavior plans (Care Plans)

  • Engage in a variety of therapeutic interventions that include individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, family consultation and discharge planning

  • On-going coordination & consultation with Case management to facilitate family engagement & participation

  • Attend and participate in all hall meetings

  • Initiate interaction and peer consultation as needed with Medical, Psychiatry & Psychology treatment teams to enhance treatment planning

  • Continually monitor and evaluate achievement of goals set in treatment plan

  • Ensure compliance with court orders & timely reports

  • Consistently provide supervision to enhance clinical skills and job performance of supervisees

  • Actively pursue professional training needs (for self & those supervised) by participating in education/training which addresses specific clinical competencies

  • Practice and promote legal and ethical standards

  • Complete all required clinical documentation

  • Communicate with all DYFJ staff and agencies in order to promote mental health service delivery and discharge planning

  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident related information

  • Provide on-call coverage as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • LCSW preferred.

  • LMSW will be considered based on 5-7 years of clinical experience working with adolescents, at least 3-5 years of which also include clinical supervisory experience AND the successful achievement of the LCSW within the first 6 months of hire.

  • Proven clinical supervision and administrative abilities.

  • Excellent proven verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent computer skills and ability to manage systems and email capacity.

  • Bilingual in any language a plus.
