ED Clinical Supervisor

The Emergency Department Clinical Supervisor assists with the oversight of the monthly staff schedule to maintain adequate daily staffing levels. Participates in staff development/evaluation of competency, performance reviews, and counseling.

Actively participates in the orientation, in-service training and continuing education of all personnel; maintains accurate and complete competency files. In collaboration with the manager, works with Medical Staff and other departments to ensure coordination and integration of clinical processes to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance. Patient Rounding meets or exceeds hospital and department goals.

Serves as a role model for coordinating and integrating departmental services. Identifies hospital or departmental problems, suggests plan to resolve issue, implements and evaluates plan with assistance and approval of Director/Manager. Demonstrates effective communication skills; handles complaints in a timely and effective manner; participates in conflict resolution.

Is an active member of performance improvement activities in the department. Acts as an active participant in concurrent record reviews for completeness of documentation of nursing care. Under the supervision of the Director/Manager, monitors patient care activities within budget, monitors staff usage, and monitors use of premium labor; attention to detail, high level of accuracy.

Job Requirements

Ability to maintain confidentiality and function effectively under high volumes of patients

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to exercise independent judgment on a regular basis

Effective interpersonal skills. Can work collaboratively with employees, peers and leadership

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

Experience working with health information systems to include results reporting, order entry, nursing clinical applications, and ancillary systems

Two (2) years of recent department specific experience required

One (1) year of recent charge nurse, supervisor expertise in ED required

Registered Nurse with current California RN license

BSN preferred

BLS (AHA) certification

ACLS (AHA) certification

PALS (AHA) certification

CEN/CCRN encouraged

CPI certification within 90 days of hire
