We are looking for a Specimen Handler (40 hours per week) in our Melbourne, FL location.

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 10:30am-7:00pm

Position Summary:

The Specimen Handler receives samples as well as spins and separates those specimens in preparation for testing. The handler works in conjunction with laboratory testing personnel to ensure that all samples are handled in a manner such that a quality result is achieved at all times.

Position Responsibilities:

Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Specimen Collection-collect specimens from all Processing stations and deliver to the specimen handling area

  • Prepare SST specimens for RSA and/or for manual pour-off

  • Place specimens in centrifuge for spinning

  • RSA operators will place specimens on RSA for automated pour-offs

  • RSA operators will maintain the system clean by performing all required maintenance procedures

  • RSA operator will document all issues into the log book and communicate problem to upper management

  • Manual pour off operator will process and pour off specimens manually

  • Adheres to Safety and Quality policies and procedures

  • Sort processed specimens into racks for delivery into the lab by pour off groups

  • Multi-task between different specimen handling functions

  • Understand strict quality regulations and adhere to prescribed SOP

  • Maintain composure while working in a high energy level of production

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment

Working Conditions:

  • Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.

  • Must be able to work night shift

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time

  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.

We are looking for a Specimen Processor (40 hours per week) in our Melbourne, FL location. Schedule: Monday-Friday 10:00pm-6:30am Position Summary: The Specimen Processor must maintain departmental production goals to ensure hourly specimen flow to the labs are consistent. In this role, you will prepare samples for shipping, ensuring they are secure and shipped to the correct laboratory. It will also be your responsibility to handle patient medical records with complete accuracy and confidentiality. Position Responsibilities: Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following: * Receive, identify, label and process specimens as required for processing. This includes all labeling of specimen containers and any other materials submitted by the client. * Enter demographics, transcribe and review all specimen data into the laboratory information system. * Recognize specimen problems and refer to designated personnel. * Display the ability to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by our clients. * Adheres to core values, safety, compliance policies and procedures. * Must Maintain production goals to ensure hourly specimen flow to the labs are consistent (minimum 28-35 cases) per hour * Report malfunctioning workstations to management for HELP tickets. * Disinfect work station before and after use. Keep work station neat and clean * Must be able identify requisitions that are continually failing to download and have missing information. Minimum Qualifications: * High School diploma or equivalent. * Able to type a minimum of 40 WPM. (A Typing Test will be given) * Ability to read, write and speak English fluently. * Prior Lab, Processing and Data Entry experience a plus. Physical Demands: * Ability to sit for continuously for 8 hours. * Responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object. Working Conditions: * Work requires contact with specimen requisitions, biohazardous body fluids, and other hazardous chemicals. * Fast paced and noisy environment that sometimes includes interruptions and distractions. * OSHA risk factor: Category 1.
