Position overview: The Equity Project Charter School Social Workers serve as the primary coordinators of mental health services for TEP students and families, design and implement programs that promote social and emotional health, and respond to day-to-day student issues and unanticipated crises. Each Social Worker at The Equity Project focuses his/her efforts on the students, families, and teachers in one specific cohort. In this role, you will serve as the Social Worker for TEP's 2021 Kindergarten Cohort. You will then move up with this cohort of students throughout their time at The Equity Project until they graduate TEP in 8th grade! This is an amazing opportunity to become a part of The Equity Project history and to form long-lasting relationships with students and families as they navigate the road from Kindergarten through adolescence.

Position responsibilities:

Mental health and counseling services

  • Provide regular counseling to students and families in need of social and emotional support; this includes both mandated counseling to students with IEPs (Individualized Education Plans) as well as individual and group counseling to other students in need
  • Coordinate the delivery of mental health and family services at community-based organizations for students and families requiring outside services

Prevention programming

  • Create programs for students and families to promote emotional and mental health
  • Create mental and emotional health in-service programs for staff

Crisis management

  • Respond to day-to-day issues and unanticipated student crises at TEP during the course of a school day

Requirements

  • Complete fluency in Spanish required
  • Masters degree in Social Work preferred, those with degrees in School Counseling or School Psychology will be considered
  • Significant experience as a Social Worker/School Psychologist/School Counseling, preferably in an elementary school setting
  • Minimum of five years clinical experience working with children and families or related experience
  • Working knowledge of the instructional and social needs of students at risk and students with disabilities
  • Ability to design and implement in-school prevention programming according to current best practices
  • Ability to simultaneously manage a regular counseling schedule and triage crisis
  • Ability to prioritize multiple competing urgent tasks

Benefits

The Social Worker is paid a starting salary of $90,000. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, and a 403b retirement plan. The candidate also receives all school vacations approximately 10 weeks per year.

The Licensed Clinical Social Worker will provide supportive counseling and conduct psychosocial assessments and provide referrals to support organizations. Most critically, the Licensed Clinical Social Worker will assist patients and caregivers in their care coordination within and outside the medical center over the arc of their illnesses. Working closely with the multi-disciplinary team of MDs, NPs, and others, the Licensed Clinical Social Worker will assess psychological and cognitive functioning and organize and lead support groups for patients and care givers affected by brain tumors. The Licensed Clinical Social Worker will report to the Clinical Manager, currently the senior Nurse Practitioner. Responsibilities * Conduct comprehensive clinical psychosocial assessments. * Develop and implement treatment plans and maintain plan updates in electronic medical record. * Advocate for and obtain appropriate services. * Provide or obtain concrete and supportive services. * Participate in supervision, staff meetings, in-services and trainings. * Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications * Requires a master degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience. * Must hold a degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited university/college AND an appropriate certificate from the New York State Education Department. * Must possess a current New York State License in Social Work. Preferred Qualifications * Ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience with cancer patients and skill in oral communication, written communication, problem solving/assessment, teamwork, team building/team leader, group process facilitation, documentation accuracy, customer service, interpersonal relations, creativity/innovation, adaptability, decision making, and conflict resolution. * 3-5 years of social work experience with inpatient or outpatient hospital experience working with neurological/cancer diagnoses preferred. * Spanish fluency is a plus.
