Depending on experience of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the PPA1 or PPA2 level.

DESCRIPTION

Under close supervision of the Research Program Manager (PM), and in support of the AntiViral Research Center, the Clinical Research Project Assistant will serve as a point person and help manage key projects associated with a large clinical research portfolio. The Clinical Research Project Assistant works closely with the Principal Investigator and PM to ensure the timely submission of grant applications, progress reports, and the execution of research protocols by supporting the logistics of complex, multi-site, concurrent clinical studies.

The incumbent will work with various agency grants including, but not limited to, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and research foundations, as well as coordinate and track collaboration among AVRC researchers and state and county agencies and clinical organizations. The Clinical Research Project Assistant will help provide project management support to a multidisciplinary team of UCSD and affiliate clinical, laboratory, and research staff including assisting with preparing timelines, management of schedules, providing a list of active program tasks; coordinating and facilitating meetings; organizing conference calls/webinars. They will assist in developing and maintaining a tracking system for pending projects, assignments, and all associated deadlines.

Learns to use professional concepts to conduct and / or support analytical studies or projects. Works on problems of limited scope. Acquires skills to fully analyze issues and problems, gather data and information, find and evaluate alternatives and make sound recommendations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Four years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area.

  • Basic program and project management skills. Ability to support multiple projects or protocols simultaneously, with diverse administrative stakeholders.

  • Ability to determine appropriate priorities, and complete projects accurately, efficiently, and with a high level of attention to detail, despite competing deadlines.

  • Skills to learn organization-specific and other computer application programs. Proficient in Microsoft Teams, Dropbox and Endnote reference manager.

  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Experience prioritizing a portfolio and escalating issues appropriately for triage.

  • Experience working with medical personnel and investigators, with an ability to learn how to read research protocols and grant applications.

  • Basic communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Interpersonal skills for dealing with a diverse group of people including but not limited to co-workers andUCSD departments, faculty, scientific collaborators and sponsors.

  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality. Familiarity with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) principles for systems and data analysis.

  • Basic skills to analyze and research information and learn to synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.

  • Acquiring knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Ability to capture lessons learned and standard operating procedures (SOPs) into reusable documents for instruction or workflow enablement.

  • Basic organizational skills and experience working independently and meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work as a team member with the ability to be flexible and work well with a diverse group of co-workers.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $52,100 - $87,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $24.95 - $42.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
