Roles & Responsibilities:

The Clinical Research Manager Licensed has oversight of the research projects within a department or division. Assists the Principal Investigator (P.I.) in preparing and negotiating clinical trials care delivery, patient eligibility, budgets, adequate staffing and all related HR activity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements and evaluates standards of care of professional practice in collaboration with members of the health care team and in accordance with institutional policies and regulatory agencies requirements

  • Provides and manages the necessary human and material resources for the provision of safe, high quality patient care

  • Coordinates care delivery and the assignment of staff based upon identified patient care needs and clinical competency for optimal unit operations

  • Collaborates with members of the health care team in program development, consultation, and the planning and delivery of patient care

  • Facilitates timely and responsive communication and proactive, responsible decision making

  • Assures availability of human and material resources for safe, competent, and effective patient delivery

  • Develops and implements ongoing quality improvement activities. Ensures safe, efficient and quality patient care by following the medical center's policies and protocols

  • Identifies, responds to and investigates potential and actual risk management issues

  • Practices prudent fiscal management

  • Manages human resources, inclusive of recruitment, hiring, evaluation, retention, progressive discipline and termination

  • Promotes positive consumer interactions and upholds the Patient Bill of Rights

  • Develops and maintains systems which support efficient and effective functioning of designated clinical areas

  • Must have a demonstrated clinical competence in area of nursing practice

  • Demonstrated ability or potential managerial competency, including financial management

  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal relationships, effective communication skills, ability to problem-solve, ability to motivate, develop, and coach individuals and groups, ability to appropriately confront issues, and ability to think creatively. A strong commitment to furthering institutional goals through interdisciplinary teamwork is essential


  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Certified Physician Associate

  • New York State Registered Nurse or Physician's Associate

  • 5 years experience in a hospital/medical environment

  • 1 year supervisory

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

  • Demonstrated clinical competence in nursing practice

  • Experience in managing and financial management

  • Ability to motivate, develop and coach individuals

Position reports to the Division Chief(s) and the Department Director of Research Support and Administration. Responsible for the development of forms, questionnaires, and the application of research techniques; assists in writing instructional procedure manuals for study progress, data collection and coding; reviews journals, abstracts and scientific literature to keep abreast of new developments and to obtain information regarding previous studies to aid in the planning of new studies In conjunction with the PI, designs, implements and manages all phases of study/protocol; ensures compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies; identifies problems and/or inconsistencies and monitors participant's progress to include documentation and reporting of adverse events; resolves IRB/protocol management issues and recommends corrective action as appropriate; serves as liaison with funding or sponsoring agency in conjunction with the Department Grants Administrator and Department Post-Awards Administrator and works closely with the Division Administrator. Manages research personnel within the division, including other research coordinators, research assistants, students and volunteers. Provides guidance to members of the division research team in the implementation and evaluation of clinical research; trains new staff. Evaluates and interprets collected clinical data in conjunction with PI(s) as appropriate; prepares oral or written presentations or reports and analyses setting forth progress trends and provides recommendations or conclusions of the same. Works with the department statistician in the development of study design, power analysis and processing of study data, and is responsible for the incorporation of statistical methodology and results in division manuscripts. Performs other duties incidental to the work described above. Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years related experience. Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant Master's degree required. This position requires excellent organization skills, communication, and interpersonal skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Proficiency in Windows Operating environment and MS Word and Excel required. Working knowledge of techniques and methodologies used in developing, coordinating, and managing clinical research projects with working knowledge of database management, spreadsheet, and statistical analysis software Proficiency in statistical analysis and a working knowledge of SAS/SPSS/Stata/R is required.
