ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The mission of the Office of Clinical Research (OCR) is to provide faculty with resources, information and expertise in clinical research to advance knowledge related to human disease and healthcare. The OCR facilitates the process of conducting clinical research, from inception through completion, with the goal of scientific discovery to facilitate prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease and to improve healthcare.

We are committed to streamlining procedures and enhancing services for clinical investigators and research staff, affiliate partners, extramural sponsors and research volunteers. The strategic services, education and training, and comprehensive review process provided by the OCR are designed to foster research teams throughout the USF community. OCR is managed within the Office of Research for the Morsani College of Medicine.

The OCR recognizes that the clinical research environment is fluid and we anticipate our services to evolve to meet the needs of our clinical research colleagues within the USF community and to the community at large.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Clinical Research Coordinator position at the University of South Florida (USF) supports the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) program for veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Operating within a fast-paced and aggressive timeline, the Clinical Research Coordinator will be responsible for managing the intense study visit schedule, which may require extended office hours, nights, and occasional weekends.

Key responsibilities include coordinating participant recruitment and enrollment, facilitating study visits, collecting and managing study data, collecting and processing samples, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical standards. The Clinical Research Coordinator will work closely with interdisciplinary teams, veteran healthcare providers, and external stakeholders to optimize participant engagement and study outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participant Recruitment and Enrollment:

Develop and implement strategies to efficiently recruit eligible participants from Florida's veteran, active duty, and reserve service member populations.

Coordinate participant screening, informed consent processes, and enrollment procedures in accordance with study protocols and regulatory requirements.

Maintain detailed records of participant eligibility, enrollment status, and demographic information.

Study Visit Coordination and Management:

Establish and maintain a streamlined process for scheduling and conducting study visits, considering the frequent visit schedule and potential extended office hours.

Coordinate logistics for participant visits, including appointment reminders, transportation arrangements, and facility access.

Ensure study materials and equipment are prepared and available for each visit, collaborating with research staff and clinical personnel as needed.

Data Collection and Management:

Oversee the collection, recording, and management of study data, including clinical assessments, medical histories, and treatment outcomes.

Implement data quality control measures to ensure accuracy, completeness, and integrity of collected data.

Maintain study databases and electronic data capture systems, performing regular data entry and validation checks.

Specimen Collection, Processing, and Storage:

Develop and implement standardized procedures for specimen collection, including blood samples, saliva, and other relevant biomarkers.

Coordinate specimen collection activities with clinical staff and laboratory personnel, ensuring adherence to protocols and ethical guidelines.

Oversee the processing and storage of collected specimens, maintaining proper documentation and chain of custody procedures.

Participant Navigation:

Serve as a participant navigator, providing guidance and support to study participants throughout their involvement in the clinical trial.

Address participant inquiries, concerns, and logistical challenges related to study participation, including scheduling appointments, transportation, and reimbursement.

Foster strong rapport and trust with participants to enhance engagement and retention throughout the study duration.

Performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field directly related to the program responsibilities and one year of professional experience; or Master's degree in an area of specialization appropriate for the program. Experience may substitute for education.

PREFERRED:

Direct clinical research experience with patient interaction
