Functions/Duties of Position

The Oregon Stroke Center Clinical Research Assistant is responsible for services including the initiation and maintenance of clinical research studies, data collection and study patient registration and follow-up. The Clinical Research Assistant will work under the supervision of Wayne Clark, MD and the primary responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the stroke patient database and sharing call to assist stroke team members with study patient enrollments

  • Assisting in the Stroke Centers outpatient clinic on a part-time basis, usually one day a week, registering, rooming and collecting patient vital signs

  • There will be on-the-job training for outpatient clinic duties; this includes training on how to take patient vitals

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with major course in field of research/No experience, OR Associate's degree/RN and 3 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time

  • Excellent communication, analytical and organizational skills: both written and verbal

  • Ability to work independently in a multi-tasking environment

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Familiarity with clinical research, medical terminology, and clinical contact with patients

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Data management experience

  • Working knowledge of Macintosh computers

CEDAR technicians work as members of our project teams. Work Schedule, Hours, FTE, Salary Range * FTE: 1.0, Full Time * Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm * Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience * Location: Portland, OR (South Waterfront) * Job Type: Research Functions/Duties of Position The Research Assistant will support all CEDAR research by maintaining CEDAR laboratories, supplies, and assisting in research activities. Responsibilities include maintaining tissue culture space and equipment, testing and banking cell lines, maintaining general lab equipment, assisting in supplies procurement, preparation of general reagents, and participating in various research activities. The Research Assistant will also serve as a backup for the processing of human blood and tissue samples. This position will be filled at the Research Assistant 2 or Senior Research Assistant level, commensurate with the qualifications of the finalist.   Job Requirements Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree with major courses in field of research/No Experience, OR Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience * Ability to operate complex scientific equipment and develop and troubleshoot complex experimental protocols * Experience handling chemical and biologically hazardous materials * Knowledge of policy and regulations applicable to the laboratory (safety, animal use, radiation) * Technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaborative ability, and independent thinking skills * Ability to work collaboratively with a high performing work group in problem solving * Demonstrated ability to build productive cross functional collaborations both internally and externally * Demonstrated ability to learn new and innovative processes quickly. * Energy and drive to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously: prioritize, schedule, manage, and coordinate * Ability to analyze short and long term project needs. * Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, and organizational skills * Ability to use tact and diplomacy to maintain effective working relationships. * Proficiency with computers and Microsoft applications (Excel, Access, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), and statistical analysis software * Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelors Degree with major courses in field of research and 1 to 3 years of relevant experience * 2 years in a research position and 1 year of experience working with rodents * 1 year of experience working in research laboratories * Expertise in early cancer detection * Expertise in one of our focus areas: early detection technology, risk stratification, population health and prevention, prognosis assessment, early therapeutics * Experience in tissue culture and biosafety procedures * Experience ordering research supplies at OHSU * Experience maintaining equipment * Experience processing human blood samples Additional Details   Oregon Health & Science University values a diverse and culturally competent workforce.
