The Cardiac Center at the Nemours/Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children is seeking a Psychologist to join our team in Wilmington, DE.

The psychologist in this position will provide:

  • Neurodevelopmental assessment through the cardiac neurodevelopmental follow-up program, which will expand through school age, adolescence, and transition to adulthood

  • Family-based psychological support throughout an infant's surgical admission and expanding to their transition home (using Telehealth)

  • Psychological consultation prior to scheduled cardiac surgery for children ages 2+ and their families to prevent emotional/behavioral challenges during and following hospitalization

  • Psychological intervention focused on medical adherence for high-risk patient populations (cardiac transplant, ventricular assist device, heart failure, single ventricle, ICD, etc.)

  • Universal depression/anxiety screening for adolescents with complex cardiac conditions and intervention based on screening results.

  • Psychological intervention to promote adaptive transition to adulthood for adolescents with complex cardiac conditions

  • Psychological intervention focused on adherence to lifestyle changes for patients at high risk for acquired heart disease

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D from an APA- approved clinical psychology program
  • a pre-dcotoral internship from an APA-approved site
  • at least one year of postdoctoral experience in a medical setting

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Nurse Clinician pursuing board certification as a CNS is responsible for improvement and maintenance of scientifically based clinical nursing care for the Cardiac patient population. The CNS achieves this by providing direct and indirect care to patients and their families, promoting professional development, disseminating and conducting research and collaborating with interprofessional teams. The role of the CNS is directly aligned with the pursuit of national recognition for nursing excellence through their work to advance nursing practice, improve the patient care environment * Facilitator of Learning: Demonstrates clinical expertise while supporting clinical nurses to integrate new evidence into practice. Provides education or teaching skills to clinical team, patients and family. * Collaboration: Focuses on (and role models) multidisciplinary team building and effective team functioning. * Response to Diversity: Reviews alternative approaches and implementing planned change to meet needs considering cultural, social, family and system diversity. * Clinical Inquiry: Interpreted and uses research to evaluate practice, and collaborates in research. * Systems Thinking: Responsible for innovation and change in the patient care system. Able to make connections within components. * Caring Practices – Responds to subtle patient and family changes: engages with the patient as a unique patient in a compassionate manner. * Advocacy/Moral Agency: Influences the negotiation of moral dilemmas, allocating resources, directing patient care and access to care. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS A. Education, Training and Experience * Graduate of accredited school of nursing, MSN Required or BSN and currently enrolled in a CNS program * Minimum five years related clinical experience, Cardiac experience required. B. Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, Credentialing * Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Delaware * Advanced Practice Nurse license and board certification in the State of Delaware as a CNS The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for ensuring scientifically based nursing care for the Cardiac patient population.
