The clinical practice leader (CPL) will work in close collaboration with Practice Manager and Practice Coordinator to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the clinical staff. The CPL will have strong knowledge of office procedures and protocols and possess the ability to make effective judgements and decisions based on objective criteria.

Additionally, he/she/they will possess the ability to effectively communicate both written and verbal, give and receive information over the phone and main order in a busy environment. He/she/they must be able to operate independently with minimal supervision and set priorities and meet deadlines. He/she/they must be able to tactfully interact with diverse personalities and maintain professionalism when interactive with individuals at all levels.


a. Uses knowledge and expertise to identify potential problems and/or resources for patients and families.

b. Assists in the coordination of patient care conferences with staff to help ensure best caring practices and outcomes for patients and families.

c. Shares responsibility for nursing process and outcomes, providing staff performance coaching for process and quality improvement.

d. Encourages staff to provide input and make decisions to improve patient and family care and the work environment.

e. Systematically evaluates the department's standards for care and scope of practice, redefining them when needed based on new evidence.

f. Oversees daily department operations in collaboration with the department leadership team, staff, and interdisciplinary stakeholders.

g. Evaluates the technology resources available for patient care, seeking staff input during the decision making and selection processes, as well as during ongoing use.


. Role models, teaches and/or mentors professional leadership and accountability for nursing's role within the health-care team.

a. Designs, implements, and evaluates nursing care models in collaboration with the nurse manager.

b. Leads and participates in departmental and hospital programs, committees, and special projects to achieve desired outcomes.

c. Oversees compliance with regulatory requirements for the department and corrects items of concern.

d. Assists with coordination and presentation of department staff meetings.


. Recognizes, responds, and provides follow-up for all issues, concerns, and suggestions on behalf of the patient population and staff with guidance from the nurse manager Practice Manager.

a. Analyzes and provides timely follow-up, in collaboration with nurse manager Practice Manager, on identified safety concerns, near misses, critical incidents and sentinel events and provides leadership in system redesign to promote a culture of safety for patients, families, and staff.

b. Assumes accountability for daily operations at the unit level practice level to include developing staff schedules, approve/deny time off requests and ensure compliance to policy and procedures- assumes resource role or patient assignment as needed.

c. Allocates resources and coordinates staffing schedule to optimize patient care and services.

d. Provides input regarding the development and assists in monitoring the operating and capital budget. Makes recommendations regarding strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

e. Integrates knowledge of organizational mission, goals, and systems into the development of staff and patient strategies and department growth.

f. Shares responsibility for the outcomes of quality improvement initiatives, contributes to improvement efforts, and champions change by identifying obstacles and requesting resources for effective improvement programs.

g. Evaluates the efficiency of department daily operations and supports cost-effective resource utilization and financial outcomes.

4.Professional Development: Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing professional practice. Involves staff in projects that encourage and provide opportunities for professional development.

c. Assists with personnel selection and staff development-participating in staff interviews, setting clear staff performance expectations, encouraging staff development, and completing timely performance evaluations-including staff input in each process.

d. Demonstrates reflective leadership and uses self-appraisal, performance appraisal, Department Director Practice Manager input, and peer review to assist with professional development.

g. Conducts coaching and feedback with collaboration from nurse leader Practice Manager.

h. Interviews, hires, and oversees the orientation of new employees considering departmental, divisional, local and individual employee needs as basis of decisions

i. Serves a clinical leader/coach/mentor to staff

j. Demonstrates consistent leadership in the maintenance of a fair and just culture

Experience Minimum Required

  • 3-5 years RN experience in telemetry setting

Experience Preferred/Desired

  • 5 - 7 years experience as an RN plus leadership experience as committee chair and/or resource nurse.

Education Minimum Required

  • BSN

Special Skills Minimum Required

  • Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider

Licensure and/or Certifications Required

  • ARC or AHA BLS, Registered Nursing License

The RCP II is a mid-level practice RCP, with basic assessment and therapeutic skills in multiple patient populations, and advanced assessment/Skills in select areas or age groups. The RCP II is expected to have higher knowledge, skill, and abilities level than the RCP I, and to routinely perform at that level. The RCP II is expected to routinely perform and interact as a professional. The RCP II can handle most circumstances that may arise pertaining to respiratory care with minimal supervision. Clinical Practice - Administers basic respiratory care therapeutics and diagnostic services with skill and proficiency. Routinely integrates knowledge, skills and experience to promote optimum care for the patient. o Consistently performs basic clinical assessments of cardiopulmonary system with high degree of accuracy. Occasionally performs more thorough, advanced cardiopulmonary clinical assessments, with appropriate inclusion of other systems (e.g., cardiovascular, nutritional, neurologic, etc.). o Performs weaning mechanics as ordered with high proficiency in >90% of the ventilator patients cared for. o Routinely develops or refines the ventilator care plan and communicates to the patient care team. o Interprets diagnostic and monitoring data with moderate-to-high precision. o Routinely integrates patient diagnostic data, response-to-therapy, and the physiologic profile to create a plan-of-care that is sound and consistent with the department standard-of-care. o Uses effective time management in work organization and triaging. o With consideration for work assignment, routinely (>90%) completes work assignment with minimal assistance. o Administers basic respiratory therapeutic interventions with high proficiency and minimal-to-no-supervision. Participates in Medical Response Team with high degree of assessment skills. o Is proficient in operating all mechanical ventilators used in-house. o Collects specimens, performs basic and more complex diagnostic testing (e.g. CCU & ER bronchoscopy, Pre/post spirometry, overnight oximetry studies) and validates the quality of the results with moderate-to-high proficiency and minimal supervision. 2. Teamwork - Works effectively and appropriately communicates with other healthcare members, the patient, and families o Documents >95% of care provided with high degree of accuracy in 95% of the patients cared for. o Provides educational training to patient and/or family members as appropriate. o Consistently communicates with healthcare members on the care plan, and does so in a manner consistent with the Organization standards. o Actively seeks ways to assist other members of the healthcare team. Professional Development - Assumes responsibility for self-development through continuing education pathways. Evidenced by direct observation, interview, peer feedback and documentation. o Successfully completes at least 12 non-mandatory continuing education units and provides documented evidence to the department for the evaluation year. o Successfully completes all of the departmental, hospital and system competencies required for job category within the designated timeframe. o Supports the advancement of the respiratory care profession by participating in at least two system, hospital, department, or professional initiatives. Experience Minimum Required * Clinical rotations with all age groups in all aspects of respiratory care. * Working experience in an acute care setting with at least one age group. * 1 year of acute care hospital clinical experience as a practicing RCP. Experience Preferred/Desired * 3 years of acute care hospital clinical and diagnostic experience. Education Minimum Required * Graduate of an (accredited American Medical Association/JRCRTE/COARC) Respiratory Education Program. Education Preferred/Desired * Associates degree from an advanced level education program. * Training Minimum Required * Age specific criteria. * Training in at least two age populations. * Training Preferred/Desired * Training experience in multiple age populations.
