Summary

The individual in this position is responsible for managing the clinical pharmacy staff, including clinical pharmacists, clinical pharmacy specialists, and clinical coordinators as applicable. This individual will ensure all clinical pharmacy programs and services are safe and effective and provide value to the organization. This individual will ensure that all pharmacy staff are provided with the necessary resources and education to operationalize a robust, patient-centered, and cost-effective clinical pharmacy program.

Overview:

The Clinical Manager will oversee all clinical pharmacy programs to ensure accurate and appropriate monitoring, evaluating, and assessment of therapeutic regimens. Oversee the development of clinical programs and services that promote optimal patient-centered, cost-effective, and safe pharmacotherapy care. Assist the Director of Pharmacy, Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services, or other applicable stakeholders in the hiring and evaluation of all clinical pharmacy staff. Ensure appropriate planning and completion of Medication Use Evaluations (MUEs) and oversee the reporting out of results to applicable stakeholders and hospital committees. Manage therapeutic medication consultation services provided to physicians and other staff regarding pharmacotherapy monitoring, including but not limited to pharmacokinetic monitoring, anticoagulation monitoring, antimicrobial stewardship activities, etc. Oversee the development and maintenance of experiential and didactic training for new pharmacy staff as well as pharmacy students and pharmacy residents, if applicable.

Manage the creation, maintenance, and delivery of education and staff competencies regarding medication use. Participate and serve as a liaison to pertinent multidisciplinary hospital committees.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization's clinical pharmacy program and ensure it provides patient-centered, cost-effective, and safe care.

  • Oversee the development of new clinical pharmacy programs and services and ensure viability of new services in terms of patient care, cost-effectiveness, and patient safety.

  • Manages the development of protocols and guidelines in conjunction with multidisciplinary teams, as applicable, that support the creation and maintenance of the clinical pharmacy program.

  • Liaison with the organization's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other pertinent hospital committees, which may include coordinating the agenda, scheduling, MUEs, formulary management, protocol and guideline development, etc.

  • Oversee and monitor the clinical pharmacy program to ensure it is in alignment with defined clinical and financial key performance metrics for the organization.

  • Evaluates clinical and financial aspects of new and ongoing clinical pharmacy initiatives.

Evaluate and provide job performance feedback to all clinical pharmacy staff, along with the Director of Pharmacy and/or the Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services on at least a yearly basis.

  • Manage compliance with all applicable regulatory standards, which may include Joint Commission, state, federal and professional standards.

  • Manage patient monitoring program in order to evaluate and optimize patient outcomes, drug utilization and patient compliance, detecting and addressing Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), etc.

  • Maintains current knowledge of pharmacotherapy standards as well as trends in the healthcare industry.

  • Manage the organization's preceptorship program for pharmacy students and pharmacy residents, including the development and maintenance of resources for both didactic and experiential education of pharmacy students, pharmacy residents, and new pharmacy staff.

  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of pharmacy staff competencies.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include:

  • Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy with 5 years experience.

  • An active pharmacy license.

  • BLS Certification within 30 days of hire.

  • Residency training or 3 years experience in hospital setting.

  • Minimum of 2 years in supervisory position.

  • Experience with medication management, policy/procedure/ protocol development, staff supervision (clinical and non-clinical), process improvement strategies, and medication safety practices.

  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation bodies, survey standards, and outcomes metrics

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Advanced certification or equivalent training (e.g. BCPS, CGP, ACLS, etc.).

  • Competent use of Office with experience in performance improvement planning.

Pay Range : $72.00 Minimum - $115.21 Maximum an hour

Individual wages are determined based upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, an individual's qualifications and experience
