Job Summary:
The Clinical Pharmacist executes clinical programs related utilization management, care management, and quality improvement. To do this, this position will have knowledge of pharmaceutical services provided under both the pharmacy and medical benefits. The position will also provide general clinical support to customer service, claims, sales, and other departments across all lines of business including Commercial fully insured, self-insured, and Medicare Advantage products. The position will regularly interface with the pharmacy benefits manager, pharmacies, provider offices, members, brokers, and employer groups. This position will also assist with compliance and business development activities.

Job Requirements


  • Required education: Pharm.D. or BS Pharmacy

  • Required licensure: Current Nevada and Texas pharmacist licensure in good standing or ability to obtain Nevada and Texas licensure within 6 months of hire

  • Preferred:

o 3+ years of previous health plan experience, including Medicare Advantage

o 3+ years in pharmacy infusions operations

o Written and verbal Spanish language proficiency

Specialized subject matter expertise in one or more of the following topics required:

  • Home pharmacy infusions operations

  • Commercial HMO/PPO/POS

  • Medicare Part D

  • Mail Service/Specialty pharmacy

  • Pharmaceutical benefit design

  • Other facets of pharmaceutical, managed care, and PBM industries

Language Skills:

  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.


  • Proven experience in a customer-facing role.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Must be able to write effectively

  • Comfort with both phone and face-to-face communications

  • Familiarity with the pharmaceutical, managed care, and PBM industries

  • Familiarity with and ability to quickly learn multiple software tools

  • Claims Processing Platforms (extensive knowledge required)

  • CRM tools

  • Reporting platforms (must be able to write ad hoc queries in at least one reporting tool)

  • Intermediate level MS Office skills

The PharMerica facility in Reno is recruiting a Per Diem Staff Pharmacist. The Staff Pharmacist provides pharmaceutical services to long term care and institutionalized patients in a manner that maximises quality and patient safety. Participates in and oversees the dispensing of medication in accordance with federal and state regulations. Essential Functions: * Evaluates physician medication orders for appropriateness of drug, dosage, potential interactions, and route of administration. Makes recommendations for therapy changes to the physician and facility staff as appropriate. * Maintains patient/resident database to include appropriate current and past medical history, appropriate clinical and laboratory data, and concurrent medication (including over-the-counter and home remedies). * Ensures that appropriate laboratory tests for monitoring certain high risk conditions are ordered, evaluated and discussed with appropriate members of the healthcare team. * Collaborates with the healthcare team to provide clinical and technical support as needed. * Documents all communication with physicians, nurses, other members of the healthcare team and patients/residents and their family members in the medical record. * Implements policies and procedures for the safe procurement, storage, distribution and use of drugs and biologicals, as well as disposal of drugs. * Obtains, as necessary, and maintains all required documentation in accordance with federal and state regulatory agencies and KPS policy. * Informs the Pharmacy Manager of medication related errors. * Assists facility/agency staff personnel with procedures relating to safe and effective methods of procuring, maintaining, administering and disposing of drugs. * Performs other tasks as assigned. * Conducts job responsibilities in accordance with the standards set out in the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, its policies and procedures, the Corporate Compliance Agreement, applicable federal and state laws, and applicable professional standards. * To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
