Nemours is seeking a Clinical Pharmacist, FULL-TIME, to join our Nemours Children's Hospital team in Orlando, Florida

Located in Orlando, Fla., Nemours Children's Hospital is the newest addition to the Nemours integrated healthcare system. Our 100-bed pediatric hospital also features the area's only 24-hour Emergency Department designed just for kids as well as outpatient pediatric clinics including several specialties previously unavailable in the region. In keeping with our goal of bringing Nemours care into the communities we serve, we also provide specialty outpatient care in several clinics located throughout the region

This position is responsible for providing Pharmacy Services within the Inpatient and Outpatient Retail Pharmacy Department and the Nemours Children's Hospital. The Clinical Staff Pharmacist will review, clarify, verfiy, and provide recommendations for medication orders and be responsible for the dispensing of medications, and the activities surrounding dispensing, throughout the hospital and its associated clinics at Medical City.

Position responsibilities

  • Reviews, interprets, and verifies medications orders for accuracy using sound principles, accounting for pharmacology of the drug, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic variations in drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination with responsibility for establishing and overseeing the delivery and preparation of unit dose and parenteral pharmaceuticals

  • Carries out rules and regulations pertaining to the professional policies of the pharmacy department and ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations concerning Controlled Substances

  • Provide pediatric pharmaceutical services to improve drug usage and therapeutic outcomes including advising physicians and practitioners on issues concerning drug therapy, the inherent toxicity of drugs, drug-drug, drug-food interactions and side effects, as well as assisting in the prescribing of appropriate doses

  • Responsible to provide accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff and to patients and their families if needed

  • Coordinates the activities of pharmacy technicians engaged in the preparation, labeling and delivery of medications in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to the dispensing of drugs, controlled drugs, investigational drugs, and the maintenance of required records

  • Reads, extract, and interprets information in patient's charts accurately

  • Participates in the quality improvement and medication use review activities of the department. Collects data; conducts quality monitors and inspections; maintain logs, records, and other documentation as assigned

  • Promote the use of the Nemours Children's Hospital drug formulary by converting non-formulary orders to formulary when possible, but facilitates procurement of non-formulary drugs when necessary

  • Establish and maintain an open communication process throughout the hospital

  • Works with other NCH colleagues to engage the patient and their family in medication discussions, planning and educational sessions to support Patient and Family Centered Care

Position requirements

  • Pharm D with Hospital experience. Currently licensed by the State of Florida or legally eligible

  • Minimum of 3 years unit dose training, IV, TPN, Oncology, drug storage, distribution, and automation technology systems experience. EPIC and Pyxis experience preferred

Facility Profile: Since opening our doors in 1908, Florida Hospital has offered one of the most comprehensive children's health programs in Central Florida. Today, we continue this legacy of pediatric excellence at the Magnet® recognized Walt Disney Pavilion at Florida Hospital for Children. Our campus is home to 30 pediatric sub-specialties led by a team of 400+ nurses and physicians. We provide specialized care in various state-of-the-art settings, including an 81-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with private family-centered rooms, an Advanced Center for Pediatric Surgery handling nearly 4,000 cases each year, and one of the few pediatric oncology programs in the area. We're also Central Florida's only pediatric provider for bone marrow transplant, kidney transplant, Gamma Knife services, trilogy radiation and Level III epilepsy care. But perhaps most exciting of all, is that this is the first—and only—hospital to bear the Disney® name. Department Profile: The Pharmacy Department is open 24 hours a day and is staffed with approximately 130 employees, including pharmacists, technicians, a medication safety coordinator, inventory control specialists, and an administrative coordinator. The entire pharmacy team works together to assure patients receive the highest quality pharmaceutical care possible. From our central pharmacy and 6 satellite pharmacy locations, we dispense 15,000 doses of medication daily. Through Cerner Millennium CPOE and Pharmacy management system, the Pharmacy processes more than 10,000 orders per day. Pyxis dispensing cabinets help distributes 90% of the medications for administration. The Pharmacy department manages a $55 million-dollar drug budget. Lexicomp serves as the system drug information Work Hours/Shifts: Monday through Friday, Saturday and Sunday as needed; 7a – 5:30p and 11:30a – 10p Job Summary: Primary responsibility is the provision of central pharmacy and satellite pharmacy operational staffing, integrated clinical and distributive pharmacy services, decentralized pharmacy practice, and direct patient care programs. Performs all duties necessary for the effective daily operation of the central pharmacy, satellite pharmacy areas, and decentralized pharmacy areas. Actively participates in direct patient care programs, drug management services, medication uses systems, and student experiential training throughout the institution. Actively functions as a member of pharmacy practice programs and clinical pharmacy services to proficiently complete critical medication order scrutiny, drug profile review, and monitoring of patients with a broad range of disease states to identify, prevent, or mitigate medication-related problems.
