The Department of Clinical Sciences at Auburn Universitys College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applications from qualified individuals for a clinical-track or tenure-track position in small animal orthopedic surgery at faculty rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. Soft tissue surgeons with a strong interest in orthopedics are encouraged to apply.

The orthopedic service at Auburn University is committed to excellence in clinical service, teaching of professional veterinary students, and resident training. The surgery service is composed of orthopedic surgery, small animal soft tissue surgery, and oncological surgery. The surgery services are complemented by specialists in small animal medicine, medical and radiation oncology, emergency critical care, anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, neurology, radiology, avian and exotic medicine, small animal and equine ophthalmology, equine medicine and surgery, sports medicine, food animal medicine and surgery, equine, food animal and small animal theriogenology, dairy medicine, and pathology.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinical service and instruction, didactic and laboratory teaching, research, outreach, and service. Instructional responsibilities include teaching professional veterinary students and veterinarians (interns and residents) in postgraduate training programs related to orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.

Clinical service responsibilities include a hospital assignment of approximately 50% for tenure track faculty and 75% for clinical track faculty. Annual clinical service and research assignments are negotiable, depending on the successful candidates experience, interests and the type of appointment (tenure-track or clinical-track).

The College of Veterinary Medicine is located on about 350 acres on the rural perimeter of the Auburn University campus. The small animal teaching hospital is housed in the Wilford and Kate Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility, completed in 2014, that provides 208,000 sq. feet dedicated to meeting the Colleges mission of practicing the highest standards of veterinary medicine.

The facility includes a dedicated orthopedic examination and treatment area that consists of a day time patient ward, and clinician and technician office space. In addition, there are four dedicated orthopedic examination rooms and two dedicated orthopedic surgical suites. The surgery services operate with a high level of quality equipment including Synthes fracture sets, SOP plating systems, interlocking nail system, IMEX skeletal fixators, arthroscopy tower, laparoscopic/thoracoscopic equipment, LigaSure, operating microscope, 3D model printing capabilities, portable C-arm, and C-arm compatible operating tables. Funds are dedicated for the purchase of the Biomedtrix THR system, the Kyon PAUL system, and a future elbow replacement system.

The Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital offers a variety of imaging modalities including digital radiography, ultrasonography including musculoskeletal ultrasound, nuclear scintigraphy, 3T MRI with full orthopedic and neurology packages, 64-slice CT, a Brainsight stereotactic system, and fluoroscopy. The Auburn University MRI center provides 3T and 7T MRI service for client and research patients.

A Varian Edge Radiosurgery System (advanced linear accelerator) will be operational in the fall of 2018. The Physical Rehabilitation Service and its two CCRP technicians provide comprehensive rehabilitation services including underwater treadmill, a resistance swimming pool, therapeutic ultrasound, laser therapy, acupuncture, and weight-loss camp.
