Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is hiring a residential faculty in Nursing. All nursing faculty positions provide clinical, lab and classroom instruction to nursing students from diverse backgrounds and/or cultures throughout the nursing program curriculum covering nursing concepts in the curriculum across the lifespan. This position uses traditional, nontraditional and innovative methods of instruction, including the use of technology, uses effective interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills while teaching in an integrated curriculum demonstrates commitment to student academic success. The Nursing Faculty contributes to college governance by serving on college and/or district committees.

Essential Functions

Instruction: Supervises and instructs students of various ages and diverse backgrounds in classroom and/or lab settings. Instructing students in Nursing courses with an emphasis on developing the students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This includes utilizing various teaching methods to promote effective learning in students with diverse abilities, levels of academic preparation, ages, and socio-economic/cultural backgrounds.

Professional Growth: Engages in professional growth opportunities to enhance subject knowledge and develop pedagogical skills. Nursing faculty members are expected to model the profession's high standards through their commitment to excellence, innovation, integrity, and teamwork. Faculty within the department keep their knowledge up to date to assure the students within the program are learning the newest skills expected of Nursing graduates. Professional growth opportunities may be external, such as attending national or regional conferences, or internal, such as attending college or department training sessions.

Student Success: Helping to lead the departmental efforts to build and maintain the Nursing program at SCC. This requires a commitment to student success and working together with other SCC employees on student success initiatives and community outreach efforts. This includes advising Nursing students; facilitating partnerships with in-state universities for transfer programs and grants; assisting students with other private or out-of-state universities' transfer programs requirements and participating in outreach activities.

Resources: Engages in collaborative processes in deciding the best use of the department's funds and other resources to support the incorporation of technology into an integrated lecture/lab setting.

Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills as well as the ability to represent the department for program accreditation and institutional organization requirements. Must meet the requirements of all nursing faculty.

Course/Program Coordination: Provides program coordination and direction of faculty and staff, and oversees systematic plan of evaluation and program development and/or revision.

Committees: Serves on college and/or district committees as the faculty and/or program leader.

Minimum Qualifications

To teach in the registered nursing program: You will need a minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse providing direct patient care. The majority of the faculty members of a registered nursing program shall hold a graduate degree with a major in nursing . If the graduate degree is not in nursing, the faculty member shall hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing.

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree plus 3 years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care,

OR a BSN and a graduate degree and 2 years' experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care,

OR a graduate degree in nursing and 2 years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care

2.Must hold an Arizona registered nurse license in good standing or multi-state privilege to practice in Arizona by the first day of employment.

3.Must be able to meet health and safety requirements including CPR certification, Fingerprint Clearance Card, and drug testing.

Desired Qualifications

A. Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree or higher

B. One (1) or more years of experience in the psychiatric specialty nursing

C. Experience working with accreditation principles and regulatory concepts of nursing programs

D. Experience with assessing and evaluating program outcomes

E. Experience with the use of technology including classroom applications, clinical simulations and/or distance learning.

F. Experience with curriculum development and a variety of teaching strategies

Special Working Conditions

  • Will be required to travel or be assigned to other MCCCD locations.

  • May be required to work evenings and weekends.

  • May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.

  • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.

  • This position requires a physical presence on campus with possible partial remote work depending on business needs to best serve the students, department, and college.

  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals

  • May be required to instruct at multiple sites and/or teach days, evenings or weekends

  • Possession of a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card required

  • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other infectious diseases

  • Assignment may extend past the normal academic semesters

  • This position is scheduled to start Fall 2024
