Minimum Education:

Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Registered Nursing.

Minimum Experience/Knowledge:

5 years acute care nursing experience required.

Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.

Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrates ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.

Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as Internet and access and utilization.

Ability to participate in and utilize research for improvement of patient-care practices.

Required License/Certification:

Valid California Registered Nurse License.

California Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support training.

Advance Cardiac Life support (preferred)

Specialty Certification (preferred). If no certification upon hire, one must be obtained within 12 months of hire, and maintain renewal.

Fire and Safety Certification. If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 90 days of hire, and maintain renewal before expiration date.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist serves as a resource/consultant for all departments regarding clinical specialty, conducts/ participates in research across varied patient populations. Develops, coordinates, delivers and /or evaluates educational activities for hospital staff, patients and family members.

Leads outcome-based approach to patient care by insuring evidence-based practice and interdisciplinary care delivery.

The Clinical Director of Education and Practice Integration is responsible for overseeing the overall education and competency validation across USC Care Ambulatory practice sites, 1206D and non 1206D designated. The Clinical Director develops and disseminates educational materials with a focus on ambulatory care delivery by clinical support staff (MA, LVN, RN, technologist when applicable). Educational content includes, but is not limited to, policies and procedures, state and federal regulatory requirements, and industry best practice care delivery. He or she partners with information technology colleagues for clinical work flows and training. The Clinical Director is responsible to remain knowledgeable about current, evident-based medicine including new trends in ambulatory care delivery. His or her knowledge and experience informs development and maintenance of policy and procedure governing ambulatory care. The Clinical Director anticipates training needs of ambulatory clinical support staff and develops training activities to ensure appropriate and safe care. Support staff clinical care is verified through a competency validation process. The Clinical Director ensures that updated, relevant tools are available for staff and provides instruction on completion. Adherence to the competency validation process remains with the staffer under supervision of the local leader. The post leads the clinical arm of practice integration and serves as a partner to and team member of the integration business unit. The clinical diligence role includes, but is not limited to, analysis of practice operation such as services and procedures rendered, staffing model, job descriptions, competency validation tools, practice site clinical work flows, medical supplies and equipment. He or she oversees practice integration readiness training including Fire and Life Safety, emergency response, and relevant policy and procedure education. The post participates in fit-up of new space and Day-In-the-Life exercises as needed. The Clinical Director, as a leader supporting growth and expansion of the organization, may serve to oversee management of a practice site. As such, the post participates in financial management, risk management, quality assurance compliance, patient care management, and teammate management. This role provides leadership and direction to assure safe, efficient, therapeutic and ethical patient care and positive teammate relations. He or she has full supervisory responsibilities for Clinic Managers within their assigned area including but not limited to hiring, termination, disciplinary procedures, mentoring, professional development, annual review, salary increases. The Clinical Director operationalizes the growth and development of the practice(s) and new service opportunities by utilizing the proper allocation of resources and sound financial management.
