Clinical Nurse Specialist

Position Summary: A Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is a Masters prepared Advanced Practice Registered Nurse whose function is to improve outcomes in patient care within the three spheres of practice: patient care, nursing, and systems.

The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist is a clinical expert in pediatric nursing who, in addition to providing direct care, serves as a leader in education, research, quality improvement, outcome monitoring and consultation with other health care providers The CNS utilizes a theory-based practice to provide and/or direct the clinical case management for a specialty pediatric population. The CNS functioning within the area of expertise works in collaboration with, and is an integral member, of a multidisciplinary health care team.

The CNS has a strong foundation in providing an environment of safe quality care.# The CNS demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for managing professional development and competency validation.

The CNS has responsibility for the quality of standards of nursing care for a specific patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the organization. Demonstrates the knowledge of neonatal, infant, child and adolescent growth and development principles and applies these principles when caring for patients and families.# Is able to modify plan of care based on assessment and interpretation of a client#s growth and development. Experience with quality improvement systems, such as Lean, preferred. Technical Knowledge:

Competence with computer systems and adequate skills for EMR use required.
