Our surgical team offers access to skilled specialists and a variety of surgical procedures, including the latest minimally invasive procedures, right here at home in Miles City. In addition to general surgery, our surgical services include:

  • Abdominal surgery

  • Biopsy

  • Cesarean section

  • ENT surgery

  • Faxcular

  • Gastrointestinal surgery

  • Hip fracture treatment

  • Hysterectomy

  • Minimally invasive (mini-incision) total joint replacement

  • Orthopedic surgery

Your day.

As a Clinical RN Manager of Surgical Services, you need to know how to:

  • Provide input into nursing and organizational strategic plan for service growth and development.

  • Manage unit productivity to expected standards in collaboration with CNO.

  • Investigate all major complaints, develop action plan in collaboration with clinical staff, and report findings and expected action items to director timely.

  • Facilitate orientation process for all new hires in coordination w/the HR and nursing education.

  • Facilitate the UOR process, ensuring appropriate follow up and communication.

  • Act as a liaison between nursing councils and administration.

  • Facilitate quality improvement within service areas.

  • Manage unit specific processes in collaboration with unit members to meet all regulatory standards.

  • Utilize staff resources in an efficient manner. Hold team members accountable for productive use of time.

  • Use data to drive process change and reengineer workflow in collaboration with nursing staff and CNO.

  • Counsel staff related to performance issues utilizing PMI process to give feedback and establish action plans.

  • Demonstrate effectiveness in negotiations and compromise as needed to ensure positive outcomes.

  • Serve as a resource to others in specialty areas of qualification.

  • Identify special needs of patients, co-workers, physicians and their staff and communicate these to other team members.

  • In collaboration with unit members, participate in the assessment of the environment to identify current quality issues and status. Collect necessary data and information from all stakeholders.

  • In collaboration with unit members, participate in the development of quality improvement projects and assesses the need, readiness and environment for change.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a learning plan in collaboration with unit members, to support the implementation of a quality improvement project.

  • Review patient satisfaction surveys. In collaboration with unit members, utilize a problem solving approach in resolving patient satisfaction issues.

  • Participate in the development and management of best practice guidelines, using evidenced based approach specific to area of the specialty, to ensure standards of care are being met.

  • With the assistance of the CNO and Human Resource Manager, be responsible for interviewing and hiring associates and initiating termination of associates under direct supervision.

  • Discipline personnel for behavior and/or performance related issues.

  • Coach, mentor and model expected behaviors of staff and management.

  • Conducts regular Personnel Management Interviews (PMI) with staff to establish goals and communicate and establish timelines/expectations for project outcomes.

  • Monitor and makes adjustment to staffing needs related to patient census, acuity and departmental needs.

  • Maintain financial accountability for assigned departments and functions within established budget.

  • Provide general staffing pattern necessary to meet needs of department. Implement methods to effectively manage and reduce overtime with use of hospital personnel.

  • Participate in the preparation of annual budgets for capital equipment, personnel, supplies and other departmental costs.

  • Maintain knowledge of compliance requirements with regulatory agencies, i.e. JC

  • OSHA, HIPPA, and ORP.

  • Promote mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abide by service behavior standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your experience.

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, required

  • Bachelor's Degree in a health-related or business field, required

  • Master's Degree, preferred

  • Current Montana RN license or eligible to obtain, required

  • Current BLS certification, required

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a leadership role, required
