White Plains Hospital Job Description Title:Clinical Nurse Educator- Cardiac SurgeryJob Code:300208 Department/Location:Leadership TalentDevelopment/Cardiac services Reports to:Sr.Director of ClinicalEducation FLSA Status:Exempt Position Summary:The Clinical Nurse Educator acts as an educator, consultant, facilitator, clinician and resource person for Cardiac Services. Based on assessed learning needs the CNE collaborates with the Cardiac Services health care team to plan, implement and evaluate educational programs related to nursing and other clinical departments. Utilizing adult learning theories and current teaching methods, the CNE coordinates (together with the Director of Clinical Education, CNEs, Nurse Managers, Staff Development Educator and Magnet Coordinator), the orientation program for the Cardiac service nursing units, as well as providing a variety of educational programs and training that assist staff members to acquire and maintain performance competencies. The CNE provides continuing education programs to foster the professional development of staff and participates in the development and implementation of selected projects/activities. The CNE acts as a role model and resource for all nursing staff. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following: Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors Participates in education programs and activities that promote the implementation of goals for the Nursing Division. Identifies, develops, implements, and monitors quality and Performance Improvement initiatives to provide quantifiable evidence of progression toward the success and outcome of organizational goals Identifies and implements nursing evidence-based and/or best practices to develop Nursing Standards and protocols for the delivery of optimum patient care Plans, implements and evaluates the orientation program for new staff members of the Nursing Division in Cardiac services. Assesses and meets identified learning needs Plans, implements and evaluates clinical orientation with Director of Clinical Education, Nurse Manager and Staff Development Educator. Identifies and establishes goals/plan to resolve performance problems during clinical orientation Assures appropriate documentation of orientation competencies Acts as clinical resource/mentor/preceptor for staff Provides educational programs based on assessed learning needs Provides educational offerings for staff as requested/required. Incorporates principles of adult learning and utilizes appropriate teaching methods in educational offerings Coordinates and/or provides i-service necessary for new programs, policies or equipment. Participates in the planning and/or presentation of Continuing Education programs. Contributes to the development of standards of practice for the nursing division. Acts as an educator, consultant, facilitator, clinician and resource person within the nursing division and interdepartmentally as appropriate. Keeps current in Joint Commission and NYS 405 State Code requirements Participates in ongoing Performance Improvement activities and initiatives as requested/ required. Enhances level of knowledge related to role as an educator, clinician, resource and clinical expert. Participates in patient care to maintain expertise and ability to function as a resource. Promotes a positive image of the hospital, and the profession of Nursing to the Health Care Team, patients and the community. Portrays a professional image through appropriate dress and demeanor. Attends mandatory hospital in-service programs. Maintains specialty certification. Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team. Attends meetings as requested/required. Participates in committees, task forces, projects, etc. as required. Submitsall other work reports as required/requested by the CNO, Director of Clinical Education and Staff Development, Director of Cardiac Services, Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, or Magnet Coordinator. Promotes professional environment and culture consistent with the ANCC Magnet Model. Performs all other related duties as assigned Education Experience RequirementsCurrent NYS RN license Masters degree or higher in nursing Specialty certification preferred; required within 2 years in position Minimum of 5 years clinical nursing practice; Cardiothoracic nursing experience required Current BLS, ACLS, certification required. A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. Position requires ability to frequently push/pull/lift heavy objects and lift patients. Performs difficult manipulative, arm-hand steadiness and hand eye coordination skills. Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 85% of the time. Demonstrates ability to follow written and oral instructions required for the position. Demonstrates ability to concentrate in fine detail with interruptions while attending to tasks. Demonstrates ability to analyze multidimensional problems into component parts and sort out tasks in priorityorder to solve the problem.
