The Clinical Nurse A - Inpatient, is a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing that has less than a year of clinical experience. Working under the guidance of the RN preceptor/mentor and clinical educator, the Clinical Nurse A - Inpatient demonstrates increasing independence performing the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) and learns effective and efficient supervision of and delegation to unlicensed staff.

Refines decision-making skills and effectively utilizes discretion and independent judgment to provide, coordinate and document direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care in accordance with LLUMC-Murrieta's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory). Applies basic theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area of specialty. Contributes to nursing excellence and embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize patient satisfaction, safe patient care and professionalism.

Develops skills to contribute to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. May be required to participate in on-call rotation based on department business needs. The Clinical Nurse-A is eligible to promote to Clinical Nurse-B classification after one year experience. Performs other duties as needed.

Associate Degree in nursing required. Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science Degree nursing program within six months of hire with expected completion date two and a half years after enrollment required.

After one year experience as a Clinical Nurse A, employee is eligible to promote to Clinical Nurse B classification when criteria in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook and job specifications outlined in the Clinical Nurse-B job description are met. Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association required. Other certifications required as listed in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care.

Demonstrates basic competencies in clinical nursing. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area of specialty.

Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibit professional behavior at all times. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; teach, collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple patient assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

The Clinical Nurse B- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Wound Care Clinic (HBO/Wound Care) utilizes discretion and independent judgment to provide, coordinate and document direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care in a fast-paced outpatient Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Clinic. Demonstrates expertise in caring for patients with various types of simple to complex acute and chronic wounds and multiple health comorbidities. Assists the physician and nurse practitioners with wound debridement, therapeutic dressings, compression therapy, treatment of wound, skin and bone infection. Performs the nursing process (assessment, care planning, intervention, evaluation) with minimal supervision in accordance with LLUMC-Murrieta's established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory). Embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice and applies theoretical concepts to clinical practice and exhibits self-motivation to continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in wound care and hyperbaric oxygenation treatment. Exhibits interpersonal skills that portray professionalism and maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Functions in a skills mix environment and directly supervises and delegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. Meets qualifications, licensure, certifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care. Associate of Science Degree in nursing required. If hired after January 1, 2021, enrollment in a Bachelor of Science Degree nursing program within six months of hire with expected completion date two and a half years after enrollment required. Minimum of one year experience required. CN-B's are eligible to be promoted into the CN-C classification when criteria outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook and job specifications outlined in CN-C job description are met. Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required. Certification from the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nursing Certification Board (WOCNCB) preferred. Wound, Ostomy Nurse (WON) specialty certificate preferred.
