Description

The New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Sciences Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program invites applications to join its faculty as a full-time Clinical Lecturer for August 2024 to teach in our COAMFTE-accredited MS in Marriage and Family Therapy program. This is a 10-month, non-tenure track, in-person teaching position at our newly renovated Bronxville campus, home to the New York-Presbyterian Iona School of Health Science. The faculty member will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, a record of service, continuous professional development and work collaboratively with colleagues across the School and University. Responsibilities include teaching, mentoring graduate MFT students, professional development, serving on committees at the university and school levels, and providing contributions to increase the visibility, impact, and reputation of Iona University.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as integral member of the Marriage & Family Therapy faculty team

  • Teach courses in the program as outlined in competency-based course syllabi that could include: Ethics, Law and Professional Issues, Introduction to MFT Practices, Psychopathology and Systemic Diagnosis, Clinical Supervision and other related systems courses.

  • Provide mentoring to students in their MFT Capstone and academic advising of students.

  • Utilize a range of teaching and/or supervision strategies that support the presentation of course material, including (as appropriate): conducting live supervision through the use of live observational recording software, the use of Medicat electronic medical records, and use of an academic record platform and other instructional technology.

  • Collect and apply learning assessment information to improve teaching and curriculum.

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to meet program, school, and institutional goals.

  • Remain current with clinical practice and evidence that support content area expertise and professional growth.

  • Engage in department, school, and university-wide committee work including program evaluation and accreditation

  • Participate in recruitment, retention, and admissions activities program and student advisement for career and professional development.

  • Support and participate in shared governance and curricular planning and development.

  • Participate in regularly scheduled faculty meetings and collaborate with department colleagues to ensure consistency of content delivery of MFT courses.

  • Consult with Program Director/Department Chair when issues arise with course delivery and/or student-related concerns.

  • Familiarize oneself with departmental, school and university policies that may have implications for course delivery (e.g., FERPA regulations, attendance policies, grading policies, weather-related closings, procedures for withdrawal, requests for incompletes etc.)

  • Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior and uphold all professional standards as outlined in the AAMFT Code Ethics

  • Demonstrate appreciation and respect for Iona University, its Mission, and the heritage of the Christian Brothers, as well as the ability to establish and nurture strong collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or DMFT degree from an COAMFTE-accredited institution

  • License to practice MFT (if applicable in the state within which he/she practices)

  • License or eligible for licensure in the state of New York

  • AAMFT Approved Supervisor status or candidacy

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum of three years post-graduate practice experience

  • Teaching experience with evidence of teaching ability and effectiveness

  • Commitment to fostering a strengths-based, culturally responsive/sustaining, and student-centered learning environment

  • Experience of providing mental health services for couples, families, individuals, and diverse client populations

  • Familiarity or willingness to be trained in the use of instructional technology

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior MFT teaching experience at the graduate level strongly preferred
