INTRODUCTION
Under the supervision of the Director of the Post-Graduate Nurse Practitioner Residency Program (PGNPRP), the Clinical Lead is responsible for, but not limited to, development and expansion of resident clinical rotations; coordination of the clinical quality activities related to the residency, development of clinical partnerships, and serving as a liaison between partners, residents, and the director.
MAJOR DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Support the health center and the organization in contributing to the quadruple aim: improving health outcomes, improving patient experience, supporting care team well-being and the financial sustainability of the organization.
Health Outcomes
- Determine appropriate clinical locations for resident specialty rotations
- Collaborate with specialists to secure placements
- Collect, evaluate, and analyze outcome data of the residents and care provided at clinical rotations
- Expand and enhances the resident clinical experience to create a robust clinical learning environment
- Collaborate to improve or maintain provider/staff/patient satisfaction, quality of care, and productivity
- Ensure that residency accreditation standards are continually met
- Perform and serves as a role model for patient care and provider duties
- Advise residents and work with clinical preceptors to ensure the safe provision of care and compliance with policies and procedures of Unity Health Care, Inc.
- Review available data reports and analysis from clinical experiences to develop action plans to achieve the centers' goals and shares relevant information with program director, clinical preceptors and residents
- Assist with identification of supply and equipment needs
- Serve as a consultant to PGNPRP program director regarding establishment, and revision of the residency's policies, procedures, and regulations regarding clinical experiences
Patient Experience
- Attend Unity clinic(s)
- Serve as primary resource for the coordination of NP resident clinical experiences
- Ensure that NPs are practicing at the full extent of their license and education within their scope of practice as defined by their governing bodies
- Coordinate the learning activities, progress, competencies, and evaluation of the PGNPRP clinical experience
- Review patient experience data with residents and the leadership team and translates into action steps to ensure a welcoming, patient-centered environment for all patients
- Meet with the PGNPRP director to review patient complaints or incidents involving residents, particularly those with a quality of care concern, and provides feedback, counseling or action when appropriate
- Participate in the recruitment and evaluation of appropriately trained and competent (including culturally competent), mission-driven residents
- Collaborate with site leaders and the Program Coordinator to ensure workflows are optimized and efficient
- Coordinate provider and preceptor schedules to include verification and approval of leave and coverage of scheduled and unscheduled absences from clinical rotations
- Provide excellent customer service
Care Team Well-Being
- Orient residents to the clinical experience, plans and locations
- Perform assessment needs of preceptors and residents in clinical experiences
- Assist with the onboarding of residents and ALPs program graduates
- Develop relationships and collaborates with participating academic institutions for outside resident placements
- Promote and support a culture of wellness and innovation
- Support and advocate for providers in their efforts to effect practice and system change
- Meet regularly with staff to identify opportunities for support
- Provide recognition to providers and team members high-performers
- Conduct resident evaluations and provides feedback
- Embrace team mentality: including building trust, exchanging feedback, and showing appreciation of team members
- Lead by example and works closely with others to provide comprehensive, team-based care
- Provide coaching and instruction to staff members
- Display professional conduct in all interactions and recognizes and reports concerns about professionalism in self or others
- Demonstrate flexibility and agility in working with others to meet the needs of residents
Financial Health
- Participate in managing the budget for the PGNPRP
- Assist with the management of resident capacity and patient no shows
- Responsible for the development and scheduling of clinical experiences
- Participate in population health efforts
- Work collaboratively with site leadership to promote patient access
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure that resident notes are locked in a timely manner (within 48 hours) and assists with any outstanding claims
Other Duties
- Collaborate with Health Center Directors (HCDs) and Nurse Managers (NMs)
- Participate in program leadership and operational meetings
- Engage with Medical and Specialty Directors on departmental issues as they occur
- Handle all forms of communication both effectively and ethically according to Unity Policy
- Engage and communicates with stakeholders
- Collaborate with FNP Residency Program Director and Lead Faculty for Practice Management and Resident Well-being on accreditation process including Program Gap Analysis and curriculum development.
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a current DC License, CDS and DEA (registered in DC) registrations
- Board certified in area of specialty
- 1-3 years of experience in an ambulatory care setting; homeless experience a plus
- Residency experience in a healthcare setting preferred
