Responsibilities

In this role, you will perform typing for HLA Class I and Class II antigens and alleles by using molecular DNA typing methods (sequence specific primer, reverse sequence specific oligonucleotide and sequence based typing), and/or perform genomic DNA purification; as well as quality control procedures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Performing daily entry of required specimen information and testing requisition into laboratory's database.

  • Handling required procedures for genomic DNA purification and quantitation.

  • Performing high complexity testing using HLA Class l and Class ll typing methods established in the lab.

  • Utilizing required equipment to perform HLA testing.

  • Using analysis software to generate HLA typing assignments and documenting results under supervision.

  • Performing and documenting QC of test reagents and function/performance of equipment.

  • Performing and documenting laboratory and equipment maintenance.

  • Storing DNA samples by using computer software to document freezer location.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or a related area, along with 0-3 years of biomedical laboratory experience. NYS Clinical Laboratory Technician or Technologist License, the ability to follow SOPs, and carry out comprehensive quality control procedures will be expected, as will knowledge of chemical, physical or biological sciences and clinical laboratory training within an accredited institution. Superior organizational, oral/written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and leadership skills are all essential.

Responsibilities This position is responsible for performing a broad range of laboratory activities related to and in the support of processing, freezing, storing and shipping of the cord blood units (CBUs) collected by the National Cord Blood Program (NCBP): * Perform established procedures for controlled-rate freezing and storing using the BioArchive computerized system. * Participate in executing FDA-mandated specific tests for CBU processing such as stability studies, media fill and environmental monitoring. * Prepare frozen cord blood units for shipment to Transplant Centers. Make ready the dry-shipper, provide the necessary GMP documentation, contact the shipping company, pack the frozen cord blood unit. Carry-out shipment's follow-up. Check the Unit Receipt Form for completeness, follow-up on the dry-shipper return, monitor and document the temperature inside its chamber, record and keep track of the dry-shipper next QC as well as the Temperature monitor device. * Provide frozen samples from the cord blood units for confirmatory tests and quality assessment (segments). Retrieve the units from liquid Nitrogen, scan the label with the unit ID, cut the segment and deliver it to the testing laboratory. Store the frozen segment (the FDA reference sample) from the HEMACORD® (the FDA licensed NCBP product) in liquid Nitrogen and update the NCBP dashboard computer application. * Distribute research CBUs by receiving and recording requests through the NCBP web-based application, select and pack the requested CBUs and communicate shipping information to the respective laboratory through the NCBP computer application and e-mails. * Update the NCBP computer database with results of shipments, cutting segments and reference samples. Update the records for refusals and discarded non-conforming units. * Ensure the operation of equipment. Check and respond to the notifications from the advanced remote monitoring system (Isensix). Complete preventative maintenance requirements following manufacturer's instructions and current procedures; troubleshoot malfunctions; call for repairs; maintain equipment inventories; evaluate new equipment and techniques. * Maintain safe and healthy work environment. Qualifications To qualify, you must have Bachelor's Degree in medical technology or biological sciences; a minimum of one year experience in biomedical lab setting.
