Performs all aspects of laboratory testing in one or more sections of laboratory.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of test results and/or blood products by performing quality control testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Performs analytic procedures, including testing of specimens and/or blood products, reviewing results and interpreting results.

  • Performs post-analytic procedures, including result release/reporting, result correction/amendment, responding to inquiries, and specimen storage and retrieval.

  • Performs pre-analytic procedures, including test order entry, specimen collection, specimen processing and/or blood product handling.


Education/ Knowledge, including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Biology or a related science is required.

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License (CLS) required.

  • Knowledge of theory and test application of clinical chemistry, hematology/microscopy and coagulation are required.

  • Knowledge of tranfusion service and flow cytometry theory and test applications may be required if working in those areas.


  • Current experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in one or more sections of the laboratory is highly desirable.

  • Experience providing laboratory testing for similar patient populations (examples include pediatric, neonatal, oncology, perinatal and cardiac) is highly desirable. Experience working in a laboratory with a computerized laboratory information system is highly desirable.


  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, multi-tasking and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a complex, fast-paced environment and take appropriate actions in challenging situations.

The R&D Laboratory Technician is responsible for providing support to the Research and Development (R&D) department by performing a variety of laboratory procedures of technical nature. These procedures include, but are not limited to, gathering and preparing samples and substances for analysis; maintaining laboratory inventory; handling sensitive equipment to analyze samples or substances; collecting and analyzing data; and reporting findings to a Project Manager. The R&D Lab Tech will work with potentially hazardous materials such as pathogens or chemicals and is well-trained to maintain safe laboratory conditions. * Gather and prepare samples and substances for laboratory testing and analysis * Maintain laboratory inventory of samples, reagents, and other related laboratory supplies * Ensure that all safety guidelines are followed at all times and maintain a clean and orderly environment * Maintain and operate sophisticated laboratory equipment * Conduct experiments using sound scientific methods to verify/reject various types of hypotheses * Run both manual and automated assays (ELISA, Western Blot, and others) to produce reliable and precise data * Clearly document work, including procedures, observations, and results * Effectively communicate results of experiments and/or assays to others * Set-up, maintain, and clean laboratory instruments and equipment * When time permits, provide assistance to Validation Specialists and aide in the kit assembly process The Ideal Candidate would possess: * Understanding of statistical methods and probability * 1-2 years of previous work experience in a similar position * Previous ELISA and/or Western Blot testing experience Basic Minimum Qualifications: * Bachelor degree in Biological Science, Chemistry, or a related field required * Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox * Must be willing and able to learn other software programs as needed * General Laboratory knowledge (use of equipment; pipetting; personal safety, general lab practices) * Must have strong attention to detail * Must be able to work both autonomously and as a member of a team * Ability to comprehend scientific materials and instructions * Knowledge of FDA and ISO Quality System Regulations (cGMP and cGLP) pertaining to medical devices * Must be able to effectively communicate results with team members * Ability to record data, make computations, and analyze results * Must be able and willing to adhere to corporation personnel policies and practices, including attendance and punctuality requirements. * Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship Position is full-time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
