Providence is calling a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology (Clinical Laboratory Services, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula Montana. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

In this position you will:

  • Be responsible for the pre-analytic, analytic and post analytic testing of blood and body fluids to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

  • Determine Microbial culture results, and use internal protocols to determine clinical significance and extent of work up.

  • Preform traditional microbiology and molecular testing to detect pathogens.

  • Call appropriate person with panic results or results that could gravely affect the well being of the patient.

  • Notify appropriate personnel of problems related to specimen collection or testing.

  • Utilize a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to ensure that testing is completed at the appropriate time to meet clinical needs.

  • Serve as a clinical resource for physicians and other health care providers.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree

  • Montana CLS or Montana CLT

  • The typical certifications to get the license are: MT/CLT (ASCP) - National certification as Medical Technologist (MT/CLT) from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/CLS) from ASCP

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor's Degree

We are seeking a Senior Clinical Data Engineer III – PSJH to work independently with all levels of Core Leaders (System, Region, Service Area and Ministry) utilizing his/her advanced subject matter expertise and coding skills to lead teams, design advance data sources, develop quality assurance processes, test multiple hypotheses, design challenging visualizations, use advanced contemporary data science techniques, provide ongoing training and facilitate multiple projects. In this position you will have the following responsibilities: * Clinical Data Expertise: Advanced Subject Matter Expert and analytic resource in a number of clinical areas applying knowledge of definitions and identifying best sources of data * Data Acquisition: Utilizes advanced SQL and/or other languages for complex data acquisition, and/or is an advanced user of graphical user interface-based programs for very complex data acquisition projects * Data Architecture: Designs advanced data sources, views and summaries and creates functional data architecture * Data Validation / Accuracy: Develops quality assurance processes; performs data validation; critically evaluates the output of reports to produce reports with a high degree of accuracy. * Reporting / Analysis: Works with clients to develop and iteratively test multiple hypotheses around complex questions; provide strong written summaries of findings; creates presentations that succinctly address and anticipates the questions of the audience. * Display / Visualization: Performs visualization design; completes challenging visualization projects independently; utilizes good sensibility in visual storytelling Required qualifications for this position include: * BA/BS degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, business administration, healthcare or a related clinical or analytic discipline. * The equivalent of MA/MS degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, business administration, healthcare or a related clinical or analytic discipline, or Six Sigma Black or other similar designation / certification. * 7 years of relevant data analysis. * Experience with database query and analysis languages (e.g. SQL, R, SAS, Python) and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, D3). * Ability to interpret complex statistical data * Demonstrated ability to define, develop and analyze performance measures and metrics * Demonstrated project management skills. * Possesses knowledge of healthcare including: Clinical terms and concepts, Administrative Coding, including DRG, ICD, CPT * Displays a record of self-motivated discovery, intense intellectual curiosity, and a passion for working with data to answer important questions. * Quantitative skills and analytical abilities to interpret complex data for strategic projects and conduct statistical analyses. * Familiarity with database structures, data definitions, and data relationships sufficient to understand and utilize complex data models with multifaceted record relationships, key structures, and record identification schemas. Preferred qualifications for this position include: * MA/MS degree in Health Information Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, business administration, healthcare or a related clinical or analytic discipline. * 7 years of relevant data analysis; a biomedical setting. * Certification in an IT discipline, application, or tool for at least 1 year.
