Providence is calling a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology (Clinical Laboratory Services, Day Shift, 1.0 FTE) to St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula Montana. In this position you will:

  • Be responsible for the pre-analytic, analytic and post analytic testing of blood and body fluids to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

  • Determine Microbial culture results, and use internal protocols to determine clinical significance and extent of work up.

  • Preform traditional microbiology and molecular testing to detect pathogens.

  • Call appropriate person with panic results or results that could gravely affect the well being of the patient.

  • Notify appropriate personnel of problems related to specimen collection or testing.

  • Utilize a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to ensure that testing is completed at the appropriate time to meet clinical needs.

  • Serve as a clinical resource for physicians and other health care providers.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Associate's Degree

  • Montana CLS or Montana CLT

  • The typical certifications to get the license are: MT/CLT (ASCP) - National certification as Medical Technologist (MT/CLT) from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/CLS) from ASCP

  • Bachelor's Degree

VIEW JOBS 9/11/2018 12:00:00 AM 2018-12-10T00:00 The Good Lab at the University of Montana seeks a full-time Research / Lab Manager to join our collaborative team of intellectually curious, innovative thinking, and hard-working professionals to lead data collection on large-scale genomic experiments, manage quantitative/systems genetic experiments using established breeding colonies of mice and dwarf hamsters, and contribute to the overall intellectual environment of the lab. The Good lab uses diverse genomic and quantitative genetic approaches to understand mammalian development, adaptation, and speciation. This position is responsible for the daily operations of the research unit by overseeing resources, equipment, and personnel; collaborating on evolutionary studies using molecular techniques and manage of genetic breeding experiments with mice and hamsters (including anatomical dissections, microscopy and quantitative genetic analysis) and statistical and computational analysis of genomic data; developing and establishing safety policies/procedures and will manage the implementation and refinement of laboratory protocols; participating in preparing manuscripts for publication, supervision of undergraduates in laboratory techniques, and travel to national meetings to present results; and managing the overall needs of the laboratory including budgets and grant administration. This position will also hire research staff, supervise, and train undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory techniques; develop and teach methods and procedures; and ensure lab safety. This position requires incumbent to develop working knowledge to effectively manage mouse/hamster research colony including all aspects of rodent husbandry and maintenance of genetic research; develop working knowledge to design and implement genomic experiments to address questions in evolutionary biology; and develop working knowledge to construct genomic libraries for various Illumina sequencing projects, including exon capture, RAD-seq, and whole genome sequencing. Required Skills * Demonstrated working knowledge of basic concepts in evolution, genetics, and genomics. * Demonstrated management skills (both fiscal and personnel). * Demonstrate the ability and desire to learn/develop laboratory protocols and techniques. * Strong communication skills, including the ability to teach and train others in analytical methods and procedures. * Ability to identify, analyze and summarize relevant literature. * Ability to write effectively, gather data for reports and grant proposals, generate reports and contribute to the generation of grant proposals. * Possess basic accounting and budgeting skills. * Possess competency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access. * Possess an understanding of safety guidelines and be able to instruct others in this. * Capability to set priorities while utilizing good time management practices. * Ability to work well independently and with others. * Good organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and assign those tasks to others. Minimum Required Experience * Bachelors Degree in Biology, Genetics, or another related scientific discipline, and previous laboratory research experience with a foundation in molecular biological techniques including DNA/RNA extraction and purification, PCR amplification, DNA sequencing, and quantitative PCR; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications * Candidates with previous experience working with rodent systems or collecting and/or analyzing large-scale genomic data (e.g., WGS, exome sequencing, RADseq, RNAseq, ATACseq) are strongly encouraged to apply. * Basic experience with next-generation sequencing techniques including construction and validation of sequencing libraries. * Experience with bioinformatics analysis of genomic data, including proficiency in one or more coding language (e.g., Python/Java/Perl/C+/R). * Experience working with rodent husbandry/genetics. * Experience dealing with large datasets (e.g., using R). * Experience in biochemistry or analytical chemistry. * Master's degree in biology or a related field.
