Job Description
Clinical Laboratory Scientist CLS/Medical Technologist MT or Medical Laboratory Technician MLT performs a wide variety of duties in the laboratory.
Perform Moderate and High Complexity Testing on blood and all types of body fluid specimens.
Ability to work in various areas of the Laboratory (i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, etc.)
Insure accurate and reliable test results by adhering to instrument maintenance, calibration and quality control procedures.
Ability to properly use Laboratory Information System (LIS)
Maintains records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements
Coordinates with phlebotomy and other hospital staff to ensure proper collection of patient samples
Troubleshoot problems with laboratory equipment, test methods, and sample collection
Trains new employees and students on laboratory methods, instruments, and policies
Ability to communicate patient results and/or problems to Medical or Nursing Staff
Good customer service and communication skills
Ability to work under pressure of emergency situation
Other duties assigned by Supervisor or Laboratory Director
Shifts: This position does need someone with a flexible schedule.
Education: Associate's degree from an accredited college or university. Degree must be in Medical Laboratory Science or one of the biological or chemical sciences. Laboratory training through an accredited laboratory program preferred.
Experience: One to two years experience working in an accredited laboratory preferred, although will consider new grads as well.
Licenses/Certificates: Certification as a laboratory professional by ASCP, AMT, NCA, or HEW preferred
