Overview

Position Summary: The Clinical Lab Scientist II performs a range of standard and/or technically demanding procedures in one or more of the Clinical Laboratory disciplines exercising initiative and independent judgment.

The Clinical Lab Scientist II plays a crucial role in conducting high complexity testing within the Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (HLA) Laboratory. Our HLA laboratory provides critical support to CHLA's Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, as well as Solid Organ Transplant programs. In addition to these core functions, the laboratory conducts testing for HLA and disease associations, pharmacogenetics, and immunotherapy.

The scope of clinical testing in the lab encompasses HLA typing and chimerism testing using next-generation sequencing techniques, as well as HLA antibody testing utilizing Luminex microarrays. The Clinical Lab Scientist II is responsible for executing a diverse range of standard and technically demanding procedures.

This role requires the demonstration of initiative, robust documentation skills, and the exercise of independent judgment in ensuring accurate and reliable results. The CLS II staff member should be able to: (1) communicate technical or general information to their manager, director, and medical staff, (2) provide instruction in the basic theory, technical skills and applications of laboratory test procedures, and (3) provide expertise and serve as a technical resource for laboratory technicians. The CLS II also functions as a licensed staff member performing duties according to the California Business and Professions Code, CLIA and other regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications: 2 to 5 years of relevant clinical experience required with at least 1 year in the area of specialty, preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certifications:

Bachelor's degree in biology or related science required.

Valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required.

ASCP Board of Registry certification as Medical Technologist, or other specialty preferred.

Pay Scale Information

USD $84,656.00 - USD $146,151.20

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
