We are looking for an individual with a background in human genetics, genomics, and reproductive health to join our Clinical Genomics team to curate, analyze, interpret, and report clinical genetic data.

What you'll do:

  • Critically analyze and interpret clinical genetic information

  • Generate clear, concise clinical reports

  • Work on teams to develop and curate genetic content

  • Participate in the development and refinement of tools for analyzing genetic data

  • Willingness to be flexible with regards to work schedule is preferred

What you bring:

  • PhD in genetics or a related field preferred, but will consider strong candidates with undergraduate or Master's degree

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to understand, synthesize, and coherently evaluate complex genetic information

  • Experience in a CLIA diagnostic laboratory, familiarity with next-generation sequencing, and/or knowledge of advanced methods of copy number detection is beneficial

  • Previous research experience with human genetic diseases preferred (reproductive health, cancer, cardiopathy, neuropathy, neurology, immunology etc is beneficial)

Department Description At UCSF Medical Center, our Clinical Laboratory supports the inpatient population of our tertiary care hospital, an Emergency Department and outpatient clinics. The Immunology Lab provides an extensive menu of testing for autoimmune disorders, infectious diseases and immunophenotyping. We provide a stimulating and fast paced environment for Clinical Laboratory Scientists, with in house education opportunities. Job Summary * Oversees workflow of the lab to ensure turn-around times are met * Troubleshoots or investigates malfunctioning procedures and analyzers * Aids in the development of new procedures or modify existing procedures under the direction of a project leader * Performs lab compliance procedures including calibration and calibration verification of assays * Establish and maintain QC materials and data * Assists in training of new CLS's and CLS trainees * Works as a bench CLS as needed Required Qualifications * Five years of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in flow cytometry and with some experience in Immunology * Valid California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or a temporary license pending passing the next scheduled licensure examination * Bachelor of Science Degree * Demonstrates superior theoretical knowledge, technical judgment and skills and the ability to work with a minimum of supervision * Assumes responsibilities for keeping abreast of technical developments through current literature review; as requested by Immunology Supervisor, evaluates new procedures and makes recommendations * The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations Preferred Qualifications Prefer five years of Flow Cytometry with Immunology experience, to include, but not exclusive of, experience in: * High volume hospital clinical laboratory * Current automated equipment/methods in the area of specialty * Development of new assays * Writing SOP * Teaching, including orientation and training of employee * Word processing, spreadsheet and database applications Licensure/Certification * Valid California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Technologist license or a temporary license pending passing the next scheduled licensure examination Living Pride Standards Service Excellence * Demonstrates service excellence by following the Everyday PRIDE Guide with the UCSF Medical Center standards and expectations for communication and behavior.
