Required Degree: A doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology; marriage and family therapy; or social work. The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Program Overview

Brigham Young University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking applications for full-time professional faculty positions. This is a continuing faculty status position that may be under-filled with a visitor.

This position is focused on the direct delivery of psychological services to the BYU campus community, including students, faculty and administration. All faculty will convey the love of Jesus Christ through their services to students and clinical work will include an emphasis on servicing students with compassion as disciples of Jesus Christ should. The primary function of a CAPS faculty member will consist of providing individual, group, and couples therapy. Faculty will also engage in outreach and consultation. Teaching activities will build faith in Jesus Christ and will include scientifically accurate content in the domain of the field of psychology. Duties/Expectations:

Direct Service (24 hours, 60%)

  • Conduct individual therapy, group therapy, and couples therapy
  • Supervise graduate therapist-in-therapy (including supervision of interns from our APA-accredited internship)
  • Teach one Student Development course focused on mental health and psychology topics
  • Provide community level outreach intervention and consultation to the university community

Indirect/Administrative Services (16 hours, 40%)

  • Participate in scholarly activity and relevant research
  • Serve on assigned faculty department and university committees
  • Complete clinical documentation
  • Receive training and education in professional issues and trends, participate in professional organizations, and complete continuing education to maintain licensure
  • Participate in mentorship activities as assigned

Experience:

  • Utah licensure is required within one year of hire.
  • Previous college counseling center experience is preferred.
  • Experience with psychotherapy, assessment, and training of Ph.D. students in university setting is preferred.
  • We highly encourage applicants with experience of demonstrated competency in working with diverse populations.
  • Ability and desire to interact with students is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students is required.
  • Flexibility is required.
